The population of Dania Beach was 1,524 as of 2010. The name "Dania" comes from the Spanish word for palm tree and beach. The town began to form in the early 1920s when a group of citrus growers moved to Dania Peninsula from Key West. By 1925, there were over 100 residents in Dania Beach. In 1936, Dania became a city with its own government and police department. The economy of Dania Beach is driven by tourism and real estate development. There are several theme parks located in different parts of town: Miracle Mile water park, Dolphin World Aquarium, Aqua Park (formerly known as Jungle Land), and the new Water Park at Biscayne Bay which opened in 2009. also several hotels including Hard Rock Stadium and Wyndham Garden Miami have been built or are under construction in recent years near the downtown area making it one of the most heavily developed areas outside Miami-Dade County

Dania Beach is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 27,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County and part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent European settlement in Dania Beach was made by Captain John Smith on November 15, 1765 when he and his men landed on an island near modern day Dania Beaches Boulevard and Biscayne Boulevard. They named their new town "New Providence" after the English colony of Rhode Island which they had just visited. In 1836, Dania Beach became a separate municipality with its own government and mayor. It remained that way until it merged with Miami into one municipality on February 14, 1964. On December 6, 1978, Hurricane Andrew struck South Florida causing extensive damage to business property along Biscayne Boulevard from Dania Beach to Kendallville., Dania Beach was placed under federal emergency management jurisdiction for two weeks while officials prepared for the storm's impact. During this time the city contracted with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) services to provide essential municipal functions such as water supply, fire services and law enforcement including providing disaster relief supplies such as food and shelter to residents stranded during the storm surge.. The city also hired civilian volunteers to support local government operations during this time including setting up generators and restoring power lines downed by Andrew.. AfterAndrew's passage away from South Florida on December 12th FEMA announced that all hurricane damage awards would be paid out through state agencies rather than through individual municipalities like Dania Beach which would have required taxpayer funding Huntsman said “the decision not just affects us but every municipality across South Florida that’s been hit hard by Sandy – $1 billion will go directly to them because we don’t get anything back from FEMA." On October 1st 1957 construction began on what would become known as Miracle Mile Expressway which connected Sunrise Drive in DowntownMiami with Biscayne Boulevard in North Dania Beaches This expressway would become one of America's most famous tourist attractions becoming a popular spot for weddings and other events over the years
