The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History in Davie, Florida on December 8, 1956. The gift history was initiated by Lt. General James E. Hinton, Commander of the IAF at MacDill AFB during a luncheon in honor of Brigadier General Claude Noel Keyes who had recently been relieved from his command of the USAF Eighth Air Force and became Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Evaluation at Headquarters USAF. It is interesting to note that this event was also attended by Gen. Curtis LeMay, Commander of the USAF Strategic Air Command who later testified before Congress about the role air force forces played in Korea and Vietnam. During World War II, Major General Curtis LeMay commanded U.S Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force which participated in strategic bombing missions over Japan while destroying military and communications targets as well as infrastructure including bridges, dams and other important installations. After the war ended he served as Superintendent of Technical Training at Wright-Patterson AFB where he developed an air traffic control system which became known as “the world’s first electronic air traffic control system” In 1951 he took command of USAFE activated 1st Bombardment Wing which operated Boeing B-29 Superfortress bombers against targets throughout Asia including China and North Korea. He then transferred to AMC where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Evaluation responsible for developing Advanced Tactical Bomber programs within AMC including combat testing operations with McDonnell F-4 Phantom aircraft flying outfitted with infrared guided bombsights located under wings deployed via remote controls from interceptor aircraft positioned high above ground level providing real time situational awareness to commanders on both land bases worldwide when needed most.. From AMC he moved to HQ USAF where he served until his retirement in 1973 after 25 years service.. The plane had been donated by Boeing and its original owner, American Airlines. It served as the Airlift Command's primary transport until 1990 when it was replaced by the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter. It flew into service with the U.S. Air Force in 1991 and has since been used for numerous humanitarian relief missions throughout the world.

Davie, Florida is a small town located in Lee County, Florida. It is known for its landmark lighthouse, which was once the largest and most Visited lighthouse in the United States. Davie also has a rich history dating back to the 1800s. The first settlers in Davie arrived during the early 1800s, and it remains one of the oldest towns in Lee County. In 1907, Davie became an incorporated municipality. Today, it is home to a population of just over 1,000 people. The town was named after Andrew Davie, who founded the settlement on Cypress Island in 1851. The island was at that time only accessible by boat and is now part of Fort Myers Beach near Naples FL. The original lighthouse was built in 1878-79 and served as thetown's only commercial building until 1958 when a new lighthouse was constructed next door on Lake Okeechobee Boulevard. After years of battled with episcopalian priests over land ownership rights to their own parishioners’ cemetery on Okeechobee Boulevard - which still remains today - Davie's first mayoralty saw construction begin on what would become Flaherty Park (named after him).
