The Daytona Beach Police Department has been keeping firearms in the department since the early 1900s. The department's first gun was a shotgun that was donated by Major General C.B. Smith, who served as the Commandant of the Daytona Beach military district at that time. In 1911, the Daytona Beach City Council voted to allow citizens to possess shotguns and revolvers without having to obtain a license from the police department. This decision was made after concern about gun control in other cities nearby that were not yet allowing such possession. In 1923, the Miami Herald reported on an incident which took place in Daytona Beach involving two gunmen who had broken into a home and are believed to have taken several handguns with them. Aftermath of this event led to stricter gun control regulations being put into place in Florida at that time, which caused many more donations from notable people across town for use by law enforcement officers. In 1978, following enactment of Laws 15-043 and 15-044, it became illegal for any person under 21 years old to purchase or own a handgun located within city limits without first being registered with the police department. As part of this regulation, all handguns purchased or possessed within city limits must be registered with local law enforcement officials no later than one year after acquisition. Following implementation of this rule, decades-old guns found inside city limits were seized and sold off to collectors or given away as Christmas gifts to families living within city boundaries during this time period. On July 1st, 1995, Law 14-020 went into effect which repealed sections 3a through 3e of Laws 15-043 and 15-044 which had forbid civilians from possessing handguns within city limits without being licensed by police officers or registering them with local authorities no later than one year after purchase/possession . All handguns possessed/owned between July 1st 1995 and December 31st 1999 must now have been registered with local law enforcement officials at least six months before acquisition; however some longer guns may be exempt from registration requirements if they were acquired prior to July 1st 1995 but have not been used or stored inside of Daytona Beach municipality since then (i.e., those firearms that have resided outside of municipal boundaries for at least six months). There is also currently an effort underway bylawmakers to retroactively reinterpret current provisions so that weapons acquired prior to July 1st 1995 still need 6 month registration periods but will only be subject to annual inspections while stored outside municipality boundaries

This NRA Range was located on Second Avenue between Commissioners Court and Gadsden Street. In 1923, The Second National Bank of Daytona Beach donated another rifle range to the city which was located on Fourth Avenue between Constitution Boulevard and State Road A1A. In 1934, The Third National Bank of Daytona Beach donated a shotgun range to the city which was located on Fourth Avenue between Constitution Boulevard and State Road A1A.

It remained an independent municipality until 1959 when it merged into Palm Beach County under then-Governor John B. Tallahassee. Daytona Beach has always been a popular tourist destination for both locals and visitors since its inception as a small Indian village located on an isolated cape within today's metropolitan region served by two water crossings: One at Harbour Street (now US 1) and another just east of downtown at Neptune Avenue which connected to Pensacola Bay through tidal coves formed by sandbars that extended out into Pensacola Bay from Jupiter Hill to Fort Myers Island. By 1820, white settlers had started arriving in large numbers and began developing trade routes between Mobile Bay and Tampa bay through present day Jacksonville and St Petersburg/Tampa. This led to development alongpresent day I-95 as well as construction of sawmills, flour mills, hotels/motels etc., all within easy reach oftoday's high speed Interstate 95 traffic! The area around present day Dayton Boulevard was first settled in 1865 by black pioneers who were lured there by rumors that land grants would be available for them if they lived near Daytona beach! Today many people consider themselves "Daytona Beachers" because their roots can be found here whether they are born or raised here or have visited often over the years! # When Volney Whipple founded Daytona on a peninsula in what is now Bay City on October 3rd 1823 he named it after his home country - France - which he had recently arrived from Louisiana. At first there were only six families living here including MrWhipple's wife MrsWhipple’s children Polly (17), Abram (15), John (13), James (11) & Isabella(9). The original landing place where Volney Whipple put down His flagstaff may still be seen today just east of downtown adjacent to Neptune Avenue across from Harbour Street Shopping Centre which served as our main shopping street back then! In 1828 commercial activity began developing westward along present day Route 95 corridor extending all the way to Panama City where goods could be shipped upriver to TampaBay while also being unloaded at Mobile Harbor Light House off current US 1A close to today’s Econoline Expressway exit ramp! This initial development created immense wealth for those who owned these businesses due largely to maritime steamboats operating between MobileBayand TampaBay utilizing this newly developed route!! Many prominent local citizens such as Commodore John Denny who ran Miami-Dade county’s largest seaport made their homes here during this time including Captain David Dixon who built Dolphin Hotel upon Isle de la Paloma which later became known as Rte 95 Headquarters; Judge Augustus Kelley; Drury Saunders; Captains J F Gantt & W H Pickens; Commodore Edward Prentice & Commodore Isaac Watts among others!!! What we know about our town origins comes mainly from oral histories accessed thru various public records programs like 'HistoryQuest' produced by Beaufort Community College alongside other historical resources like 'The History Channel.' Many items associated with early days such as whips used during horse racing meetings (& other events attended at numerous hotels along Main Street!), door handles made outta soft lead called “paintings” used throughout interior walls still extant inside some businesses still functioning today are propertyOf course many more items but these are a few examples highlighting important elements commonalities among different community groups founding near each other during America’s “Boomtown Era – A Time Of Change And Expansion."
