The United States Air Force has a long and rich history in DeLand, Fla. The first U.S. fighter squadron was formed here in World War II, and the USAF's 2d Bombardment Wing was activated here in 1955. Today, the USAF operates more than 400 planes from 19 bases in Florida, including DeLand AFB, one of the largest military airfields in the Southeast USA. In 1946, DeLand became the site of America's first operational nuclear weapons test when two B-29s flown by Lieutenant Colonel Arthur "Buzz" Aldrin piloted by Major Robert Schieffer took off from Test Site Hansen Island to bomb Japanese targets at Nagasaki City on Aug 8th of that year. On Jan 1st 1947, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin landed their Eagle lander on Inchon Peninsula during Operation Saturn V Testflight 3 to become the first humans to walk on an extraterrestrial surface! After years of development and testing at various locations throughout Florida – including Atwater AFB – DeLand AFB became operational as America's primary flying training ground for new pilots during the Vietnam War era. Today, DeLand is home to more than 4500 active duty USAF members and their families who contribute countless hours each week toward conducting air operations all over North America and worldwide!

De Land, Florida (population: 21,000) is a small town located in Osceola County, Florida. The community was founded in 1892 and lies on the DeLand River. It is one of the oldest towns in Osceola County and has been home to many local businesses and residents for over 100 years. Today, De Land is an important center for cultural activities in the region and its citizens are proud of their history and culture. The town was named after General James A. De Land who fought during the Seminole Wars. In 1892, General De Land donated land to the village for development purposes. The first store was built in 1893 and a school was opened that year. The first post office was established in 1896. The population of Deland grew rapidly during the early years of its existence and by 1912 it had reached 30 inhabitants. By 1920, however, the population had fallen to 10 due to various factors such as World War I which destroyed much of southern Florida; depression which caused joblessness; and prohibition which made drinking illegal). Families moved out of De Land during this time period because there were no opportunities for them to find work or live cheaply due to prohibition laws which limited access to many resources in Florida at that time (alcohol being one example). However, some families did remain behind because they could not afford to leave or because they found new opportunity available outside of town (such as working at nearby farms). In 1922, general education classes were introduced into the village through a grant from Governor John Capper Beckham III following recommendations from his Commission on Elementary Education headed by Drury Wills Rogers Sr.. At this time, only white children were receiving education up until then; all black children living within five miles of DeLand received instruction from white teachers until 1923 when instructor training became available exclusively to African American students through state funded programs began operation under Public Schools Management Board Act No.(2). This change allowed African American parents more choice when choosing schools for their children as well as providing better educational opportunities for them than ever before(3). During World War II, many people leftDeLand due to rationing which affected food availability especially since most farmers did not have enough produce available(4). nevertheless some stayed behind including those who worked at nearby military bases like Fort Myers Beach Naval Air Station(5) . Many businesses closed throughout World War II due bothto lack of customers or production cutbacks but also because war-time inflation ate away at profits(6) . Arnold, who served as Chief of Staff from 1951 to 1961 and then became Secretary of Defense under President John F. Kennedy. After the assassinations of JFK and Lyndon Johnson, Arnold made it his mission to increase defense spending and improve military111 capabilities. He also established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and created the U.S. Strategic Forces Command (USSF) in 1963 to manage all American nuclear weapons forces abroad. In 1974, General Creighton Abrams became commander of USSF after serving as Deputy Commander for Intelligence at USSF Headquarters in Washington D.C.. In 1985, General Michael Hayden became Director of Central Intelligence and was responsible for USSF operations worldwide including commanding American troops in Afghanistan while also leading the CIA during that time period. In 2006, Lieutenant General David Hogg assumed command of USSF from Admiral Mike Mullen which ended America’s involvement in Afghanistan after 10 years on that front – an event known as Operation Neptune’s Spear or simply “the surge”. De Land, Florida is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population of De Land was 2,878 at the 2000 census. In 1836, John Smith and his family settled in what is now DeLand after traveling through the area on their way to Mobile Bay. The community was named for Captain James A. De Land who founded Pensacola in 1795. In 1881, the Jacksonville-based company Southern Pacific Railroad built a line from St Petersburg to DeLand which shortened the journey from Tampa to Pensacola by half. The railroad helped make DeLand an important agricultural center and development of citrus fields began soon afterwards. The community experienced growth during World War II as a result of military installations established there by both the US Army and the US Navy. These included Fort Brooke (later Camp David), USS Enterprise and USS Coral Sea. After the war ended, many businesses closed down or were acquired by other companies and DeLand slowly became a largely residential town again until recent years when it has seen some modest commercial activity along with some light manufacturing endeavors such as an aluminum plant that operated from 1970-1996 and currently operates as part of JDS Uniphase Semiconductor Corp.. De Land is home to two schools: one public school known as Parkland High School; and one private school called Pinecrest Christian School which serves students between 8th grade and 12th grade only!
De Land was founded in 1836 by Major General James Wilkinson and his wife, Eliza. De Land became a villeinage district of the United States in 1845. In 1886, it was incorporated as a city under the name of Jacksonville. The city's first mayor was John Fenton. Jacksonville has experienced many changes throughout its history, including being part of the United States during both World War I and II; becoming an open-air shopping center during the 1960s; and being home to two NFL teams (the Jaguars and Buccaneers) from 1963 to 1995.
