The De Land Army National Guard, nicknamed The Red and Gold, is an inactive United States Army Reserve unit that is located in De Land, Florida. It was activated on November 20th, 1941 as the 7th Infantry Regiment at Fort Walton Beach. On December 5th of the same year it was redesignated as the 3rd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment and on February 1st of 1942 it became the 14th Infantry Regiment. The regiment took part in World War II from December 1941 to August 1945 and served in several campaigns including Normandy (July-August 1944), Italy (September-October 1943), Hollandia (November 9-12 1944), the Philippines (January 1945), Okinawa (April 6-8 1945) and Iwo Jima(February 19-24 1945). In total they were Horton’s last US Army unit active during World War II. After the war ended, the regiment was demobilized on September 25th, 1946 and its members were reorganized into companies under battalion command. It remained inactive until reactivated again on January 15th of 1957 as Company A/3rd Battalion DeLand RA NCO School Unit at Ft Walton Beach along with Headquarters & Headquarters Battery 1st Battalion DeLand RA with a mission to provide basic training for new American military personnel serving in West Germany after their return home from World War II. The company has since been disbanded but its members have continued their service through various other organizations such as Global Force Command which is also headquartered at Ft Walton Beach; Marine Corps Recruit Depot Jacksonville; Airborne Forces Training Center Falcon Hill; The Warrior program which provides unique airmobile force readiness skills to units across nation; Republic of Korea Military Academy at Ansan; etc... etc...

The De Land Army Museum is a museum located in De Land, Florida. It was founded in 1947 and is the oldest army museum in the United States.
De Land is a town in Marion County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit De Land were Spanish explorers who landed there on October 12, 1565, during the Castilian expedition led by Hernando de Soto. They named it "Las Terrazas" (The Woods). A presidio and mission were established here in 1768 by Father Garrido y Menendez. The missions failed because of Indian attacks and lack of supplies; however, Father Garrido's nephews continued to operate them until 1826 when they were finally disbanded by Spain due to American influence. In 1839 De Land became part of the Seminole Nation after its leaders signed Treaty Ocala with the US government; this treaty ceded all land east of Hillsborough River to Seminoles and ended their traditional relationship with the English. In 1840 DeLand became an independent county underFlorida statehood; it was one of five counties founded in that year by Governor John Craines as a result of his efforts to promote racial integration in Florida. The first white person ever born in DeLand was Wm Henson on December 3, 1841 when he was born at home on First Street near present-day Third Avenue. The post office at De Land was opened on February 14, 1845 and changed its name to Jacksonville on May 13th that same year; Jacksonville had become a city only two years earlier due to growth within Florida from coastal slave trade settlement into inland rice country following colonization by Spain via Cuba brothers Don Carlos and Pedro Menéndez de Avilés in 1695-96. 1% of all businesses reported having $1 million or more in sales last year according to Forbes Magazine’s annual report “America’s Most Powerful Companies” which ranks Jacksonville #5 out of 50 cities surveyed across America

De Land is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. It is part of the Pensacola–Ft. Myers metropolitan area. The population was 2,812 at the 2000 census. De Land was founded on September 15, 1835 by Englishman John DeLand and his wife Maria de la Garza as a citrus plantation called "Newberry". The first post office in De Land was established on October 3, 1836. The name of the town changed to DeLand on July 16, 1840 after it was ceded to the United States from Spain by treaty. In 1886, J.B. Nichols opened Nichols's Drug Store in what is now Main Street and Depot Avenue in DeLand which became one of Pensacola's most important commercial districts during that time period. In 1907, Gertrude Ewing organized the Ladies' Auxiliary Sewing Circle which met at her home for many years until it moved to its current location on Depot Avenue near Veterans Memorial Park in 1959. The First Baptist Church (now Ascension Baptist) was built in 1899 and still stands today within walking distance of Main Street where Gertrude Ewing once officiated services as a lay preacheress before she assumed charge as Pastorinee from 1913-1918; Revd Dr Addie Mae Brown served from 1912-1920 and then succeeded Mrs Ewing as Pastorinee; Revd Dr Ernest Ladd followed them for eight years until he retired due to health problems in 1951; there have been several pastors since then but all have retired since 1985 when Mrs Vesta Cramer took over as pastorinee effective February 1st following her retirement from teaching at USAA college located adjacent to our church property...de land has had some very active citizens who have made an impact both inside and outside their community always looking out for others including serving on numerous boards or committees including having several individuals serve terms consecutively on various boards/committees during their time with us including current Pastor Mrs Vesta Cramer who has been with us since 1985
