The first coffee shop opened up in this town back in 1824 and it was located at 5th and Lafayette Streets. It was known as the Coffee House & Market. In 1912, Mr. & Mrs. John Hutton founded The Hutton Coffee Company which still operates today. They began selling ground coffee direct to consumers from their shop on Lafayette Street until they closed down in 1957.
De Land is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name De Land comes from "Tallahassee" and means "the land where the Tallahassee Indians lived." The first white man to visit the area was Major James Peebles in 1824. He named the creek for General Andrew Jackson and his wife's family name, Lakeland Barracks Pond (now called Largo Lake). In 1881, De Land became a county seat and it has remained so ever since. The settlers in De Land were farmers who came from eastern Virginia and North Carolina. They started farming around 1848 on what is now known as Main Street. By 1870, they had acquired some 600 acres (2 km²) of land that they sold to other settlers. In 1876, they built a log cabin near present-day Main Street to serve as their courthouse. They also erected a small schoolhouse which served them until 1957 when it was replaced by a larger one on Park Road which still stands today. In 1907, Stonington Electric Railway Company established an electric line between Sanford and Kissimmee and began serving DeLand with its service station located onpresent-day Main Street opposite courthouse building. This allowed people living in Sanford to get their goods delivered directly to their homes without having to go through Kissimmee or Jacksonville. At this time there were no roads connecting Sanford and DeLand so cars had to be brought into town on wagons or horseback either going north or south on State Road 375 (later renamed US Highway 17). Soon after this service commenced residents began using automobiles for transportation into town which led to the construction of roads leading out of town including State Road 441 ( later Interstate 95) which connected downtown with DeLand via present day Park Road During World War II steel production increased due to V-E Day celebrations being held in nearby Orlando; however demand never materialized as war only increased cotton production instead The post office opened atMain Street in 1907 but closed due lack of customers during prohibition era In 1951, Gulfstream Airlines inaugurated its Sanford terminal adjacentto main square not far from old post office building . This made de land airport well known throughout Central Florida for easy access by both localsand tourists alike

De Land, Florida was once a thriving agricultural community with a population of over 10,000. The area now known as De Land was first settled in the 1800s by Spanish settlers. In 1836, the United States acquired Florida from Spain and made it an official state. However, many Spanish-American War veterans who had fought in Mexico City were refused citizenship because they did not have U.S. military orders or proof of residence in the United States. This led to tension between American and Spanish colonists living in De Land and between American soldiers stationed there and the local civilian population. In 1916, US Senator John D’Alba proposed that all Native Americans living on Florida's Gulf Coast be given citizenship and land rights as part of a plan to end Indian Reservations within mainland America. This proposal failed but resulted in increased tensions between American settlers and Native Americans throughout much of Florida during World War I. In 1922, De Land became one of four townships within Miami-Dade County when it was created from parts of three earlier counties. By 1933, the white majority had replaced the Hispanic majority in DeLand; however, black residents continued to be concentrated in South Beach at Overtown until 1959 when they were forced out due to integration into racially segregated schools operated by Miami-Dade County school boards
