The first coffee shop in De Land, Florida was opened by two Dutchmen in 1907. The shop became known as the Dutch Coffee House and served coffee from beans that were grown on the farm of Cornelis de Vries. In 1919, the business changed hands and became known as The Dutch Cafe. It continued to serve coffee until it closed its doors in 1969.
De Land is a small town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Petersburg–Clearwater Micropolitan Statistical Area. De Land is known for its citrus industry, which produces oranges and other fruit products such as grapefruit and tangerines. The DeLand post office was established on July 10, 1892, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on October 15, 1971. In 1893 John A. Chafee built a cotton gin on what is now Old World Drive in De Land to process Native American cottonseed brought overland by wagon trains from Alabama and Georgia. The first crop of crops grown at the gin produced about $2 per acre; however this number increased to about $4 per acre by 1907 when new irrigation systems were installed nearby. In 1924 Chafee sold his interest in the gin to W F Hogg who renamed it "Hogg's Cotton Gin" after himself and his father-in-law W Hogg Sr.. After World War II many farmers moved away from reliance on agriculture due to changes in technology and international competition; however some stayed behind to continue growing crops into the 21st century including Oranges for Sunbeam International (formerly Sunshine Orange) and Citrus fruits for Archer Daniels Midland ( thereafter ADM ). The DeLand area saw heavy machinery usage during WWII as a result of production of munitions atCharlie's Plant south of town; however production stopped after V-E Day because there were no more munitions plants open in southern Florida that could be used to produce food items needed for troops fighting abroad. In 1941 local men completed construction of what became known as "the Tall Ships" dockyard which processed naval supplies arriving off Fort Myers Beach including ammunition, parts and equipment needed for warships being built at that time ashore while also serving as a staging ground for Naval Air Station Clearwater which provided aviation services throughout much of the US during WWII . That same year DE LAND AIRPORT opened with Runway 3/19 becoming operational February 17th 1945 just days before hostilities ended with Japan surrendering . The airport would later become one of America’s largest military airfields with dozens of hangars housing bombers, fighters and transports throughout the Cold War period providing support for numerous Operations such as Operation Neptune’s Spear which resulted in thousands dead or wounded Koreans across South Korea . After WWII many people left De Land but others kept their businesses alive through innovative marketing techniques like using Route 66 headings on maps so drivers would know where they were going without having to look them up ; advertising “Grapefruit Grapes From DeLand” or “Oranges From Disneyworld” etcetera

De Land is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. The first European to visit De Land was José Rodrigues de Sousa on March 1, 1615. In 1835, the name of the town was changed from Fort Lauderdale to DeLand after Major General John P. DeLand who fought in the Seminole Wars and Mexican–American War. The first post office in De Land was established on February 17, 1837.[1] On December 10th, 1887 there were two murders committed in and around De Land by Mexicans working for American businessman Carlos de la Torre who ran a cattle ranch near present day Coral Gables beachfront property owner José Félix Guzmán[2]. Aftermath of these events led to increased law enforcement activity in and around De Land as Americans began fear that Mexican gunmen might control or be able to attack their settlements without apprehension or retribution from local officials. In 1902 US Congressman William McKinley had his home built near present day Broward Boulevard which became known as McKinley's House due to its resident congressman being one of the first people from DeLand to live there. From 1909 until his death in 1913 Congressman James Buchanan lived next door at 5451 Biscayne Boulevard while he represented Miami-Dade County seat Homestead (at that time located within Duval County). This proximity allowed him easy access to both constituencies duty free and also gave him close personal friend connections with many key leaders inside and outside of Congress including then First Lady Belle Boyd Buchanan[3]. He is also considered one of the most influential politicians during his era as well as a key advocate for early military involvement in World War I emanating out of southern Duval County[4]. For much of this time period most residents would only see their elected representatives once per year through hearings before various committees but with such high profile political connections it not uncommon for them to frequent local establishments such as "L'Atelier" restaurant where they would have dinner with their friends following committee meetings[5].
