Navy Deployed Gift History in De Land, Florida began in 1978 when the United States Navy sent a gift to the country of DeLand, Florida. The gift was a Boeing 727 Airliner nicknamed “The Old Lady”. It was donated by then-Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and flown into DeLand on October 1st, 1978. The plane was hangar space available at Ladd Air Force Base and it quickly became one of the most popular gifts from the Navy to DeLand. The Old Lady has been around since 1978 and has served as a staple in theDeLand community ever since. She is proof that service to our country is never done and that we will always be there for our friends and neighbors. Her airworthiness allows her to fly out to various locations in Central Florida including Fort Myers Beach, Cape Canaveral, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Tallahassee and more! In total she has transported over 350 people with her! Despite her popularity within the community, The Old Lady also suffers from some common issues that other helicopters do not: low maintenance rates (due to her age), lack of spare parts availability (due to depreciation) or simply due to rarity (given how often she flies). Nevertheless, through all these challenges she still remains an important part of Naval history in De Land as well as being a cherished member of many families locally.

De Land, Florida is a small town in central Florida on the Panhandle of Florida. The population was 2,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Boca Raton–Pasco Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now De Land was first settled by Seminole Indians in the early 1800s. In 1814, Spanish settlers arrived and founded Fort Plantation along the St Johns River in what is now DeLand. In 1821, United States Marines invaded Cuba during the Second Seminole War and captured much of Havana (now Miami) as well as parts of Cuba's interior including DeLand.From this point forward, DeLand became an American colony with its own government and school system. In 1907, over 60% of all citrus crops grown in Florida were produced here; many other crops such as corn, cotton, potatoes and sugar beets also grew extensively here. However, during World War II most agricultural production stopped due to wartime shortages caused by Enemy action within our country rather than from lack of resources inside America itself which would have been ample had we not gone into war! After World War II ended de land reverted back to its Indian/Spanish roots with several thousand Hispanic settlers moving into the area from South Texas and Mexico City while others started coming specifically because they wanted to live near water where they could fish or hunting opportunities abound especially if you can find a good spot on some high ground! The town has seen growth throughout its history but stability has always been key with limited financial resources so development can only happen through partnerships between locals and businesses who want nothing more than to see their community grow! Today there are several shopping Centers within minutes such as Walmart Supercenter on State Road 9 east just past US Highway 27 (I-4). There are also several restaurants that serve up basic Mexican food like Taco Bell(Rte 84), El Centro Mexicano(State Rd 9), La Raza(I-4) among others! Although these types of businesses cannot provide everything residents need for their everyday lives but they do make it easier for people who just want groceries or take care of Lawn Care needs without having to leave their house! There have been various plans put forth over time about how this tiny town might change through future growth including becoming an AI anything zone like Orlando or Tampa Bay while still keeping close ties to its core values like being friendly yet professional when meeting new people even if you don't know them personally although there are definitely times when it feels a little bit like things may slowly ' drift away' instead of staying rooted in what makes us special which I think is important given that we are constantly growing...

De Land is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlers in De Land were Frenchmen Alexis de la Halle and his brother Jacques de La Halle. They arrived on horseback from Québec in 1695. This was during the French colony of St. Augustine, which included what is now Polk County. In 1763, Spanish colonists founded San Marcos del Rio (now Kissimmee), then known as "Nuevo Laredo" (New Larnaca). In 1794, Spanish explorer Manuel Fernández de Oviedo established Fort Mosely here after crossing the river Florida near present-day Lake Walesa on his trip to find an outlet for Cuba's sugar cane fields through the Stonington Channel. In 1815, General Andrew Jackson led an invasion of Mexico that resulted in the Mexican War; De Land became part of American territory following the war. A post office called "Nuevo Laredo" was established here in 1821; it changed its name to "DeLand" in 1848 when it became a county seat under Seminole Indian law. The first white settler in DeLand was Isaac Sabel who came to live on what is now Old Town Square in 1824 with his wife and two young boys named John and George Washington Sabel; they started a sawmill and gristmill there soon afterwards. Other early residents include Captain James Pritchard (1827-1906) who built a tavern on South Main Street and Colonel John Treadwell (1828-1892) who built Treadwell House next door – both are still standing today - as well as Drabble & Cramer’s grocery store (now JBS Place), which opened around 1830 on New Market Square across from Battery Park City’s oldest public library building dating back to 1790! flour mills began operating around this time including those operated by James Pritchard & Brothers until about 1840 when competition from imported British flour caused them to close down permanently; some evidence suggests that DeLand may have been hardest hit by this livestock drought because many of its original brick buildings survive still intact today! From about 1840 until 1865 local farmers grew potatoes for their own consumption rather than shipping them off to Tampa or Jacksonville where they would be processed into fertilizer or food products; this helped contribute significantly towards increasing DeLand's population from 100 people per square mile at the turn of the century to over 3,000 by 1860! By 1870 most farming had stopped due largely to technological advances brought over by railroad construction making transportation much more convenient! However some smaller businesses continued up until around World War II including Ransom Hardware Store which reopened after being closed down briefly during World War II due mainly to wartime shortages of certain materials! Postwar growth slowed somewhat as many people moved out into new housing developments such as Bayfront Center beginning around 1950 however some small businesses did manage to keep existing throughout this time including Holy Name Greek Orthodox Church which operated continuously until closing shop just prior to Hurricane Irma hitting Duval County…the church survived Irma but all its contents were destroyed! resulting in its closure for good!. Today there are only a few remaining buildings from old DeLand including Old Town Square where Isaac Sabel met his death aged 78 years ago recently buried within sight thereof – one can only imagine how helpful he must have been once upon a time while helping support so many families!!
