De Land, Florida is a small town located in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The town was founded by Dutch colonists in 1763 and named Fort De Land after their original land grant from the Spanish Crown. It became an independent community in 1828 and established its own school district in 1859. The population peaked at 2,868 in 1940 but has declined since then. In recent decades, local businesses have replaced traditional retail functions with online sales and services such as home health care and pet care; however, some jobs still stay open in the town center including hair-removal services and ice cream concessions run by two sistersowned businesses. There are also several restaurants and cafes located throughout De Land offering a variety of American cuisine as well as international favorites like Italian pastas or Thai curries. According to the 2000 census there are 553 households out of which only 377 (or almost 60%) had children under the age of 18 living with them; 341 (or 66%) were married couples living together; 228 (or 41%were single mothers) ; 156 (or 29%of all residents were white non-Hispanic whites). As of 2013 there were no public schools within walking distance for most residents so private schools provide education to students who cannot afford it or do not want it. However, starting this school year De Land will be implemented into Pinellas County Schools’ district offering kindergarten through 8th grade students alternate days each week to avoid having to walk to school on weekends

The first European to set foot on present day De Land was a Spanish officer and explorer named Juan Ponce de León in 1539. He named it San Salvador de las Palmas because he felt that it would be an ideal place to establish a garrison for conquest of Cuba. The town was founded by Captain Richard Ramirez on November 1, 1795 as Palm Beach Post Station #1 due to the fact that there were no other posts in the area and abundant palm trees made it an attractive spot for settlement. In 1821 De Land became part of Miami County when it was organized from parts of Dade and Broward counties. In 1892, De Land became one of thirteen towns in Miami-Dade County which joined together to form the city of Miami . The first mayor of Miami was Jules Ferry who served from 1896 until his death in 1901; Lester Biddle succeeded him and held office until 1916 when he became governor before serving two terms as Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President during World War I before retiring to run for Congress seat he won in 1918 but lost election three years later When Grant died re-elected Governor he appointed his son Franklin D Roosevelt as his successor which led to Roosevelts New Deal program including Social Security and Medicare which began operations in 1935 with single payer healthcare system starting operation within fifty years Later on after both president Harry S Truman (1945) and Joseph McCarthy (1946) were impeached they moved all government activities out ofMiami into Washington D C where they continue today under name National Archives & Records Administration
In 1821, the Treaty of Paris was signed between the United States and Great Britain after the American Revolution. The treaty resulted in the ceding of all of Florida to Great Britain. In 1828, land purchases were made from Seminole Indians in order to create a buffer zone between what is now Florida and Cuba. On February 14, 1829, commissioners from both countries met at Fort Pickens in south-central Florida to sign a treaty creating De Land County. The area that would become De Land was part of Spanish Cuba until it became part of the United States in 1898.
