The people here were their own farmers and they would grow their own coffee. It was a very different culture back then. In those early days, there weren’t many places where you could buy coffee. You had to make your own or you would get it from somebody else. But over time, things have changed and now there are a lot of places that sell coffee. In fact, De Land is home to one of the largest Starbucks in the United States! But even though Starbucks is here, there are other places that still produce great coffee! One of these restaurants is called Blue Bottle Coffee Roasters and they produce all sorts of flavors of coffee! They have everything from Ethiopian to Colombian coffees. And if you want something really special, they also do roast their own beans!

The name De Land comes from Dutch for "the land of the headwaters," which refers to the St. Johns River that flows through the community. In retaliation for Spanish activities throughout Central America, England forced Spain to cede all its holdings in Florida including De Land to Britain in 1802 under Treaty of Gadsden following Napoleon's invasion of Spain
