This gift helped make this operation possible and is often cited as one of the most successful military campaigns in history. 3) The USS Constitution (1797) – This ship served as an Indiaman for the United States Navy from 1794 until 1814. She was then Converted into a ship of war by adding cannons and other arms, becoming one of America’s longest-serving warships. Her donation to the Air Force is significant because she was used as an airfield for radar development during World War II before being decommissioned in 1954 and donated to museums all over the world). 4) The Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter – This aircraft replaced older USAAF fighters such as the Mustang during World War II and helped lead America into victory against Nazi Germany. Its gift is especially significant because it was originally built by Lockheed Aircraft Company in cooperation with Britain’s Hawker Hurricane manufacturer RAF Industries Ltd., making it one of only a few examples of international collaboration between two major aviation manufacturers in history.
