The United States Army has been providing volunteer service to the citizens of Debary, Florida since 1855. The first soldiers arrived in 1857, and the unit was named the 7th Infantry Regiment of Florida Volunteers. The regiment served in the American Civil War and Battle of Gaines’ Mill. In 1865, the regiment was redesignated as the 1st Infantry Regiment of Florida Volunteers and fought in several engagements during Reconstruction. In 1903, the regiment was consolidated with other units to form the 2nd Infantry Division of Florida Volunteers and served in World War II as part of General George Patton’s Third Army. After World War II, the division was reorganized and renamed as Headquarters & Service Troops (H&S) 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) – Debary before being disbanded in 1973. In recent years, there have been a number of army gift history events taking place throughout Debary. These include H&S 4th IBCT – Debary's centennial celebration; The Army's Christmas Command Post military parade; The First Amendment Confederate Veterans Day parade; and The State Fair Parade on Labor Day weekend. It is these types of events that help keep alive military history in our community by bringing together veteran members from all over America to celebrate their service to our country.

Debary, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 793 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1892 by G Holmes Debary and his wife Nellie J Holcomb as a small settlement on the edge of Lake Okeechobee. A post office was established in 1893, and the name was changed to Debary in 1917. The population grew rapidly during World War I due to military activity nearby, and after the war development slowed until the early 1970s when a new shopping center was built near Interstate 95. In recent years growth has resumed with increasing development around Interstate 95 and new businesses have opened in downtown Debary. Debary's economy is based largely on agriculture which includes haymaking, corn farming, cattle grazing, potatoes planting and other crops grown for local consumption or export. There are also several manufacturing interests including fabricated metal products (especially automobiles), electrical equipment and plastics production; however most of these activities are located outside of town limits. In 2000, Debary had a population of 793 people living in 69 households. The median household income was $50,000 and 30% of residents were below poverty line; 9% were Hispanic or Latino descent; 9% lived belowthe poverty line because they could not afford health insurance; 5% were African American or American Indian descent; 1% were Asian Pacific Islanders

Debary, Florida is a small town located in Citrus County, Florida. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Spanish word "debar" meaning to prevent or hinder. The town was founded in 1898 by Methodists and Presbyterians who abandoned their farmstead in Tampa Bay because of the Seminole Wars. The first post office in Debary opened on October 9, 1898. It served as a stop on the trains that transported goods between Tampa and Orlando. In 1903, a sawmill built by brothers John and Harry Waddell became one of the first businesses in Debary when it began producing logs for lumber companies in Central Florida. The mill closed in 1969 but its legacy lives on through many local businesses that continue to produce wood products such as furniture, guitars, and jigsaws. In 1954, Drayton Sink Company constructed an aluminum plant near Debary which quickly became one of the largest aluminum plants west of St Petersburg. This plant employed over 4,000 workers during its peak production years and continues to operate today as Alcoa’s Southeast Michigan operations center. Debary also boasts several noteworthy museums including: The Methodist Episcopal Church (1898), American Legion Post 711 (1901), United States Naval Station Camp Pinellas (1912-1994), Ziegler Electric Cooperative Building (1963), DeBary Glassblowing Studio (1965-present) and George A Adams House museum (1991).
