Butler who had fought in the Mexican-American War and served as US Minister to Mexico City. In 1861, Fort Myers became the capital of Florida and it was here that the first paper clip was invented! The citizens of Debary quickly adopted this new innovation and it soon became common to give gifts with clips on them. In 1977, Debary became one of the first cities in Florida to pass a concealed carry law. This legislation made it easier for people to get permits to carry firearms with them when they went about their day-to-day lives.Gun lovers have long been drawn to this city because of its history and passionate support for gun rights!

Debary, FL is a town in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville–based metropolitan area. The town is on US-27 and US-41 north of Gainesville. The first person to set foot in Debary was Capt. James Hargrave who arrived here in 1798 with his ship "Royal George". The first store opened in 1825 by Wm. Bigham and his family. In 1828 the first post office was established in this town when John Pritchard appointed express messenger from Jacksonville to Debary for $5 per letter arrival etc., until that time it had been an act of kindness on the part of some individual or society to forward postal notices hitherward as far as this place could be reached. In 1892 Fenton Silliman built what became known as "Silliman's Hotel" on Main Street which still stands today and has been used for many years for tourist purposes including functions by the local Chamber of Commerce and other organizations during the summertime period when Gainesville's small population allows no business operations outside of their own limits In 1907 Mrs. Silliman donated land next door to her hotel for a public school which still operates today (now known as 'Debary Elementary School'). One hundred years later in 2007-2008, Mrs. Silliman's granddaughter donated additional land across I-75 from her original donation to make a new elementary school also available for students in Debary (known now as 'Old Hall Elementary School'). Debary residents have long preferred self-reliance over government assistance because they feel it takes away freedom while providing unnecessary services that do not need to be provided such as health care, education, fire protection etc... They are proud citizens who contribute greatly to their community through its economy and organizations like Chamber of Commerce and Old Hall Elementary School

Debary is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville-Orlando-Ft. Lauderdale, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Debary was John Tilton in 1838 and the town was founded as a steamboat landing on the Jacksonville River by him and others including Elisha Redding in 1840. A post office called Debary was established in 1841, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1868 Gadsden Purchase landowner James Fenton donated of land to make up for lost Indian Territory acquisition from the Seminole Tribe during the Miami-Florida War. The U.S. government then named the community Fort Fenton after Fenton's donation. Fort Fenton served as an artillery battery during World War II and also housed some of local sheriff's deputies during that time period; however, it closed down by 1966 because of budget cuts within military intelligence agencies across America which were implemented due to newly discovered Cold War espionage activities by the Soviet Union or any other nation state interested in taking over control of American defense secrets through secret infiltrations into our government institutions through those same means). In 1967 Fort Fenton reopened as a small museum with displays about local history including artifacts from Debary dating back to before its founding date - currently operated as an Interpretive Center leased from Orange County History Museum Incorporated."Debary 1886-2010: A Profile", debaryonline (www.debaryonline activism website), 10 October 2010.
