In 1917, the Jacksonville National Guard became part of the United States Army and its name changed to the Florida National Guard. The unit began its present form in 1920 and has been performing duties statewide since that time.
Deerfield Beach is a town inbroward County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,519 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Deerfield Beach was founded on December 17, 1853 by Englishman John C. Jennings as Deerfield Plantation. The name may be derived from deer which were then being hunted in the area and fished in the nearby River Okeechobee. The first store opened in 1851 and by 1860 there were six businesses including tannery, grocery store, clothing store, post office and schoolhouse. In 1865 a sawmill started operation making board and dimensional lumber for local homes and businesses until it closed down in 1924 due to dwindling demand. A hotel was built on State Road 208 (now US 1) in 1908 but it closed down within a few years due to financial problems. In 1922–24 local developer Edward Jepson built what is now known as Deerfield Beach Boulevard on land he had purchased from Jennings for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2019). He planned to develop it into an exclusive beach community with mansions, tennis courts, golf courses, commercial strips and180 private villas/houses facing only each other on well-maintained streets bordered by lush gardens edged with shingle beaches that extended all the way to Daytona Beach.. However deindustrialization beginning around this time caused most of Jepson's plans to come true only marginally; his upscale developments became instead low-income housing projects or single family homes with garages used for parking purposes only (). In 1970s Deerfield Beach experienced rapid growth thanks to its location near Interstate 95 (I-95), which linked Miami with Jacksonville through I-10 south of town. This development led to increased traffic noise - particularly during night rush hours - although some residents found comfortential features such as dog parks and bike paths appealing after decades of neglect by developers interested primarily in generating more housing units rather than pedestrian traffic calming . From its beginnings as an arm of the Continental Army, the National Guard has grown into one of the most important pieces of infrastructure in America. Today, the National Guard is a force that enjoys strong bipartisan support and is play an vital role in both local and national communities. The first units of the National Guard were raised during the American Revolution. The 1st Battalion Pennsylvania Line Infantry was formed on October 15, 1775, from men from Pennsylvania’s Second Regiment of Foot. In 1802, Congress created two more battalions: The 2nd New York Volunteers (now known as The New York State Military Militia) and The 3rd Rhode Island Volunteers (now known as The Rhode Island State Military Militia). These units were federalized into brigades under command of General George Washington. In 1861, when Confederate forces invaded America, General Robert E. Lee ordered his army to form an irregular brigade known as “the White Rose” within the 5th Virginia Infantry Regiment based in Norfolk Beach, Virginia. This unit was soon renamed “the Hardy Boys” due to its commander Colonel John Broughton who had successfully defended Norfolk against Confederate batteries while wearing white spectacles! By 1865, all Confederate forces had been destroyed and slavery had been abolished throughout America! After America's victory over Confederacy at Appomattox Court House in April 1865, many soldiers returned home with personal spoils including weapons and equipment that they could not use because their states had seceded from the Union. Many these items found their way into museums where they are now on display or stored away for future generations to see!
