The Delray Beach Army Air Base Museum (DBABM) is a museum located in the town of Delray Beach, Florida, United States. It was formed on July 3, 1942 by the merger of two military installations: Fort Lawton and Fort Pierce. The DBABM is home to over 80 aircraft and missiles from the U.S. Military's Royal Air Force, American Airlines, and excerpts from World War II history via exhibits and relics. Delray Beach was founded on July 3, 1942 as part of the buildup of the United States Coast Guard following World War II. At its peak in 1945 it housed over eighty air-qualified aircraft and missiles from various branches of service; all were used for training at this base until 1946 when they were transferred to other locations around the country. The arrival of jet aviation made an immediate impact upon DBABM with its first jets being delivered in 1949! The museum now has 12 displays about aviation history with emphasis on fighter planes such as P-38 Lightninges and Spitfires during World War II as well as bombers like B-29 Superfortresses and Boeing 747s that have been preserved here since then. In addition to display cases filled with artifacts related to each type of plane flown here, there are also plenty of roles played by both Civilians (such as test pilots) AND Military Personnel during WWII - something never before seen at any Naval or Marine Corps installation in Florida! In 1961 local businessman Don Ladd donated land adjacent to DBABM for expansion purposes which led to today's current structure - a building that can accommodate up to 1 million visitors annually! Museum events features interactive exhibits with everyday objects that have been used within specific barracks or areasofthebasecampduringWWII; everything from kitchen utensils used by messengers who transported food between hangars throughout camp throughto actual vehicles used by ground forces on patrol! On October 1st 2013 groundbreaking occurred for what will be known as “Morningside Heights” Hospital with an expected opening date of summer 2014
