Delray Beach is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 2,574 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Intracoastal Waterway and bordered by Biscayne Bay to the east, Miami Lakes to the south, and Kendall Lake to the west. The town's namesake beach is just north of its center. The first people to live in what is now Delray Beach were Native American Seminoles who arrived in 1821 from Florida and Georgia. The area was first settled as a fishing village by fishermen from South Florida in 1875. A post office called "Delray Beach" was opened in 1881, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1915. In 1957, developers built a high-rise development on what are now State Road 712 and Fourth Street which became known as "The Tower". In 1966 they built another high-rise complex which became known as "The Park". This also included an amusement park with several rides including an Eiffel Tower ride, two plunges into waterfalls (the falls were renamed for Senator Ted Kennedy), a Tilt-A-Whirl ride called "Swingtime", plus other amusement park favorites like bumper cars, train rides, billiards tables and more. In 1994 developer Harry Blackstone purchased land adjacent to The Park from the state ofFlorida for $15 million dollars making Delray Beach one of the most expensive towns to be developed in America at that time period. Blackstone would later name his company Plaza del Mar after his purchase creating one of North America's most prestigious beach communities with over 300 homespun shops totaling over 100 thousand square feet (10 acres) of retail space within walking distance of all seven plazas found throughout Palm Beach County including The Village at Hollywood Hills; new shopping areas have been created on Biscayne Boulevard across from Atlantis Airport while still remaining within walking distance of some basic needs such as grocery stores/markets/restaurants - both major highways lead into town providing easy access without ever having to leave your front porch; multiple golf courses including world renowned PGA Tour course Champions Sawgrass Golf Club are right next door giving residents easy access to everything this great community has to offer year round without ever having too much effort or expense required

Delray Beach is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Palm Beach County and one of its three cities. The other two are West Palm Beach and Port St Lucie. The town was founded on December 12, 1892 by J.F.W. Bullitt and his son-in-law W. Halsey Gaylord as a small community on what is now Indian Key Boulevard east of the present day Delray Beach waterfront area adjacent to Biscayne Bay. In 1902, Bullitt donated land for the first high school which opened in 1903 and later became known as Delray Beach High School; it remains open today as part of the University of Miami's Coral Gables campus. In 1906, Bullitt donated land for an amusement park which became known as "Bullit Park". The park was also home to America's first professional baseball team: the Miami Marlins (now the Miami Marlins) played their first game at "Bullit Park" on April 15, 1907 against Cincinnati Reds players George Sisler and Harry Wright (the only African American player in that game). The town's name originated with a dedication ceremony held by Mayor John Fenton on December 12th, 1892 when he dedicated a new cemetery located at present day Fourth Street between South Atlantic Avenue and First Avenue due west of where Delray beach now stands; this cemetery also contains some of America's earliest white settlers including JF Bullitt himself who died there on December 12th following a long life spent near Cuba’s sugar plantationsmphalming much trade along that route). On May 6th 1912 Pompano Island residents adopted Resolution No 1 asking for annexation into Palm Beach County effective July 1st 1912 making Delray beach part of Broward County On January 3rd 1926 City Council adopted Resolution No 2 giving city rights to all unincorporated areas within city limits subject to ordinance enforcement . On February 11th 1928 City Council passed resolutions authorizing annexation into Broward county effective March 1st 1928 However no final vote ever took place because then-Mayor Joseph Ahern vetoed all but one resolution while Heidegger continued to push for annexation even after being removed from office

The town has grown rapidly since its incorporation as a municipality in 1959, with a population of over 97,000 today.
