The Delray Beach National Guard Gift History can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first national guard unit in Florida was organized on November 1, 1821. It was known as Company A of the Second Regiment of Militia, which served under General James Wilkinson during the Seminole War. In 1828, Company B of the Second Regiment of Militia was formed and assigned to duty at Fort Brooke near Tampa. On December 5, 1828, a detachment from this company traveled by boat to Stonington Island in Lake Okeechobee and were finally able to disembark on December 10th. They were met with enthusiasm by local citizens who had gathered there for a Christmas party. The units soon became popular among locals for their readiness and expertise in militia duties. In 1861, Florida statehood was granted and the 2nd Regiment of Militia became part of the newly created Department of Military Affairs. On February 14th, 1862, Company C (Florida) also arrived at Ft Brooke from Tampa Bay aboard USS Constitution.. This company served throughoutthe Civil War including battles at Shiloh and Vicksburg which resulted in two dead soldiers and five wounded men from Company C’s members themselves! On July 4th 1865, Confederate General Braxton Bragg surrendered at Appomattox Court House after 125 days fighting- just one day before Union General Ulysses S Grant took control over all southern military forces! At this time Company C ceased operations due to its disbandment following the war; however many members continued service through Reconstruction until 1920 when they re-organized as an independent regiment again under Operation Paperclip into Nazi Germany’s Waffen SS! Today there are still remnants of these original companies present within both state militias in Florida – currently Companies A & B (2nd FL) are stationed at County Park Police Station in Delray Beach while Company D (3rd FL) is based out Palm Harbor barracks/shop complex where recent purchases include new rifles and shotguns!!!

In 1998, the brigade was reorganized into a divisional-level force under command of III Corps Headquarters. It remained an Airmobile division until 2007 when it became an all Terrain division under II Corps Headquarters with responsibility for both airmobile operations and landmobile operations across Florida homeland defense boundaries. On October 1st of 2017, it was announced that brigadier general Jeffrey Ladd would take over as Brigade Commander for Third Infantry Division (Delray Beach) effective November 30th 2017

Delray Beach is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies on the eastern coast of Miami-Dade County and borders Miami to the north and west; West Palm Beach to the east; Fort Lauderdale to the south; and Boca Raton to the southeast. The name Delray Beach comes from "Dolphin Key," which was first settled by Jews in 1892 as an agricultural community for their workers on Dadeland Key in Biscayne Bay. In 1907, it became part of Miami-Dade County and remains so today. The area that would become Delray Beach was originally inhabited by Muscogee Indians who lived near what is now downtown Miami before Spanish settlers arrived around 1665. A post office called Dolphin Key was established in 1892, and became a town in 1917 when it merged with neighboring Fort Myers. The original town consisted of just a few hundred people and had no schoolhouse or hospital until 1916 when a new one was built along Deerfield Road northeast of present day Delray Beach Center mall. The townsite grew rapidly due to its location close to both booming cities – Miamisburg (now Monroeville) down I-95 north and Sunrise Avenue east – as well as its easy access to fishing, sailing, swimming and golfing destinations on Dadeland Key. By 1924 nearly all of present day Delray Beach had been annexed intoMiami-Dade County through annexation proceedings led by then county commissioner James Ewart Sr.. The growth of Miami prompted some beach renaming schemes during the 1940s: Dolphin Keys became SouthBeach (1944), NorthBeach (1945), Midtown (1948), Grand Pier (1950) while Beacheside got renamed Coral Gables (1951). However, most locals continued to call their stretch of beach 'Delray' which stuck until 1967 when then local mayor Manuel Diaz ordered that all proclamations about 'the beaches' be changed back to 'Delray'. That year saw also another rename campaign with names such as Seaside Heights(1970),Broward Boulevard(1972), MacArthur Park(1974) before finally settling on Del Ray after visiting several times during his tenure on politics including once with President Jimmy Carter who called it his favorite spot on Earth In 1990, Hurricane Andrew struck southeastern Florida killing more than 100 people including many children playing nearSentinel Island off Steeplechase Drive seaward from where much damage took place especially along Gulfstream Drive between Indian Harbour Boulevard/Marriott Resort & Casino - directly across from now defunct Intracoastal Waterway Light Station - within 1 nautical mile Category 4 hurricane surge zone affected areas extending up SWLK'sWatchtower platform past landfall point & into Banana Boat Harbor & Port Everglades National Wildlife Refuge boundaries A study done following Katrina showed significant overdevelopment above allowed maximum flooding levels near Cozumel Bayou - influenced by developers wanting higher densities closer to water while overlooking open ocean - creating risks for future hurricanes becoming trapped there should they cause major flooding events elsewhere along waterways system .
