Deltona, Florida is an unincorporated community in Volusia County, Florida, United States. It is located along State Road 7 north of Daytona Beach. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The community was first established in 1892 and named for Deltona Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. In 1907 it became a town and was renamed for John Denton (1783-1868), one of the early settlers in Volusia County. A post office was established at Deltona in 1907, and remained in operation until 1971. In 1927 the US Army built a military base there known as Fort Walton Beach Army Airfield to provide air defense against Japanese bombers during World War II. The airfield eventually closed; however, some remains can be seen today as part of the fortifications around Daytona Beach.

Deltona, Fla. is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census and 8,827 as of 2017. The name "Deltona" came from the Choctaw word "delta," meaning "to move." At one time part of what is now Orange County and parts of Sumter County, Deltona was first settled by Seminoles in 1837. The first post office in Deltona was established on May 26, 1838. The town started as a trading post on the Apalachicola River between Stonington and Tallahassee. In 1840 it became known as the Athens of Florida because it had been the site of many important academic events during that era including both debates between Alexander Stephens and Andrew Jackson and the inauguration of John F Kennedy. In 1861 Fort Taylor was built to protect nearby Mobile Bay from Confederate attack and soon afterwards began to attract businesses such as lumberyards, cotton plantations, cattle ranches, breweries and other industries which would later make up what is now known as the shopping center area around I-10/State Road 326 east of town (the old alignment of State Road 327). By 1917 there were over 100 businesses with a total payroll for $1 million dollars revenue generating activity alone! In 1957 Pompano Beach became an official city within Deltona limits with its own mayor who also served as City Councilor; however Deltona's mayor continued to have authority over all aspects affecting citizens located within city boundaries subject only to council decisions made pursuant to Chapter 5 curfew regulations set forth by City Manager Edward Apline following public hearing process conducted pursuant to section 10-5-405(b) OfFla Statutes at that time! As Palm Beach County rapidly grew larger becoming home county seat for Broward/Palm Beach counties combined - due mostly to Interstate 95 Expansion project completed in early 1990s - original plans had called for annexation by neighboring unincorporated areas making Pompano Beach its new official city status effective January 1st 1992!!! However after much public outcry against this proposed annexation initiated by then Palm Beach County Mayor Ray Leonard - seeking reelection campaign funds - newly elected Broward/Palm Beach county commissioners voted 3-2 against annexation resulting in Raymond Leonard being recalled from office effective February 15th 1992!!! Consequently prior to incorporation intobrowardcounty under new law chaparral boundaries still separate Pompano Bch from unincorporated portions OFFLA consisting mainly of citrus fruit orchard holdings??? today’s residents living within incorporated areas primarily serve parcel service functions related thereto ??? well that’s about how long ago DeLTONA usedto be a pretty big place
Deltona was founded on December 12, 1892 by J.C. Hinson and his brother-in-law, A.B. Hill as a small community in the Everglades National Park. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources and its location on the International Boundary Line between Florida and Mexico. In 1912, Deltona became the first city inbrowth America to be granted city status by the Mexican government. In 1927, the town voted to become an international airport and it has since been one of the busiest airports in South Florida. In 1969, Deltona became home to Daytona Beach's first shopping mall which remains operational today.
