The population grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching nearly 100,000 by 1907. However, Deltona's growth came to a halt during World War I due to the scarcity of resources in the area. The town slowly recovered during the 1920s and 1930s, but experienced another decline during the postwar years. In 1970, Deltona merged with neighbouring Daytona Beach to form one large city.
