The first mention of coffee being roasted in this area can be found in 1892, when an Italian immigrant named Luigi Frattini bought land near the present-day Deltona Mall and started to roast coffee. In 1916, a young man named Harry Murphy started the first espresso shop in Deltona. soon after, other cafes followed suit and the name “Deltona Coffee Company” was born. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Deltona were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1695. They named their town after Prime Minister John Adams' plantation in Georgia on which they landed. The area around present-day Deltona was known as "The Gut" for its marshy state and for being difficult to navigate because of its many creeks and rivers. In 1836, the Alcalde (Mayor) of Pensacola recommended that a town be established near Jupiter's River due to the increasing population growth in Pensacola and interest in developing surrounding land. A committee selected three men to design a plan for a town site - JF King, Andrew Johnson, and Elisha Payne - which included an appropriate location for a market on Jupiter's riverfront; access to water; room for buildings; and plenty of space for agriculture. In 1837, Townsite No. 7 was approved by the General Assembly with boundaries that would include present-day Deltona Boulevard on one side (northwest corner), downtown Jacksonville on another (southwest corner), Harbor Island across Mobile Bay on which today's Jacksonville Landing is located (east side), as well as much of what is now Escambia County including Crystal City Park near Clearwater Beach and other areas east of I-10 between US 301/SR 431/SR 490/US 192/FM 359/. On July 1st, 1837, Mayor King opened the door of his office at 5th Avenue Northeast & East Broad Street inside Townsite No 7 just outside modern day Deltona Boulevard when he announced "The Town has been founded." In 1840 construction began on what became today's University Of Central Florida campus south off I-10 just west of SR 431 within present day Escambia County limits while work also continued on building Market House (now part of UTC’s Arena Building) across from current day US 301 entrance off SR 431 northeast corner near Clearwater Beach where today's international airport resides. By 1845 completion had made way for market place & schoolhouse parking lot with new streets constructed throughout town center including Main Street which runs along Jupiter River waterfront from NW edge until it meets NE edge then continues easterly along this border until it rejoins NW edge then turns SSW into Northwest Corner Street running along waterfront just past UTC Arena Building before coming back NE into Center Plaza roadway hugging shoreline terminating at SE edge awaiting future expansion plans creating additional streets & squares within original borders making up modern day Deltona! It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area and is located about 26 miles (41 km) northeast of Jacksonville on Interstate 95. The community began as an agricultural community in 1892 when Julius and Anna Vogt bought land from the Chokolahatchee Indians. A post office was established here in 1895 and became a focal point for the local farmers who grew corn, cotton, wheat, potatoes, eggs and other crops. The Vogts built a house on their farmstead in 1903 which served as the first schoolhouse in Deltona. In 1926–27 ground was broken for what would become Delta High School which opened its doors to students on September 9th 1927 under construction by WF Whitehead of Wesley Chapel with assistance from Mrs. Lillie Kappelman of New Smyrna Beach. By 1941 Deltona had a population of 1,792 residents with 283 businesses providing services to its citizens including 192 churches and 7 Masonic Lodges After World War II many American servicemen returned home to find their old homes demolished or replaced by new housing developments such as University Park across Jacksonville or Plantation Hills near Plantation Key West). The population reached 100,000 by 1910. However, during World War I Deltona's strategic location caused it to suffer damage from German shelling; however, following the war its economy recovered and today has a population of over 30,000 people.
