Deltona is a town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Deltona's first post office opened in 1892. The town was incorporated on December 12, 1915. The area that now becomes Deltona was inhabited by the Timucua and Aisay people. European settlement began in 1763 when Captain James Cook discovered Pensacola Bay and named it after his native Earl of Chesterfield (now Torrington, Connecticut). On November 30, 1786 Major James Wilkinson founded Jacksonville with land grant from King George III on what is now known as Wilkinson Boulevard near today's intersection of State Road 812 and US Highway 904. After years of effort by Wilkinson's heirs, the county seat of Duval County was established at Jacksonville on April 3, 1813 under the terms of the General Land Act approved February 14 that year by then-Secretary of War John Cushing. By 1830 Duval had become one of two counties in Florida not nominally organized as towns; however, because most residents were farmers or fishermen and lacky title to land titles did not allow for incorporation into towns until more than a decade later (and even then many only achieved legal status after becoming businesses), Jacksonville continued to serve as county seat throughout much of this period despite numerous petitions from residents to be given their own Town Ballot Measure #1 ballots which failed to get over 50% support statewide but managedFYI 64%. Consequently on October 10th 1835 – less than 2 months shy of 4 years since Jacksonville became its equal –Duval Circuit Court Judge John Fenton certified Ann Bourgeois map prepared by Captain Pierre L’Enfant showing Indian Trade Path leading east from Stonington Harbour through present day Clearwater Beach east to what is now Daytona Beach When first laid out Duvall Streets ran north/south while Broad Streets ran east/west connecting all original homes along those streets before turning south towards downtown where they connected again once inside city limits continuing south to meet Creek Street just west of downtown limits today still considered an arterial street linking all original neighborhoods together In 1849 a large tract including present day Deltona came down for sale near present day Coffee Rd & Hillsboro Blvd sold for $3200 per acre making it one of largest tracts ever offered for sale in Florida at that time including subdivisions located throughoutDuval County In 1854 Jacksonville voters passed a resolution approving annexation by Tampa so Pensacola Bay became part of both cities with similar boundaries resulting in name change from Duvallville to Tampa on May 15th 1860 . As part as result there are few modern buildings older than 1850s remaining within town limits dating back only to 1908 when fire destroyed home at 611 W 5th St #2
Deltona, Florida was founded in 1892 by two brothers,George and Charles Deltona. The first store in town was a general store. In the late 1800s, there were several plantations in and around Deltona. The Deltonas bought land for their plantation near present day Orange Beach Boulevard and built a large home on it. They had slaves until 1865 when they emancipated them.
