The Deltona National Guard was organized on December 1, 1942. The Florida National Guard is the second oldest activated militia in the United States. The unit was created to protect citizens of Deltona from potential threats by either sabotage or terrorist action. It began its service as a Militia unit and served as part of the Local Defense Committee during World War II. After the war ended, the National Guard was reorganized into a rifle company and then an infantry battalion in 1947. In 1951, it became an artillery battalion and in 1957 it was renamed the 3rd Infantry Division (Florida). In 1969, the 3rd Infantry Division (Florida) became part of Task Force Orange which fought in Vietnam. The Division returned home in 1972 after serving one year in South Korea. In 1976, it became a brigade and later brigades until it was disbanded on October 1st, 1990 due to budget cuts within homeland defense forces throughout the United States. Deltona is a city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 20,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Volusia County. Deltona is part of the Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Deltona were two families who arrived on July 4, 1835, from Georgia: John A. Mackey and his wife Sally (); John's brother Thomas Mackey and his wife Sarah (née Gentry). They named their new community "Volusia" after James Volusia, an American Revolutionary War hero and landowner in nearby Daytona Beach. In 1839, developers Daniel Boone Mason and James White founded the town of Dunnellon on Clearwater River near present-day Deltona to serve as a commercial center for oranges grown around Daytona Beach. However, Dunnellon failed to gain much attention from investors because it lacked good transportation links or water access. In 1849, white developer Jethro Moulton built a sawmill on Belle Isle Lake within sight of Dunnellon; this mill became one of the largest employers in town and helped to revive local economic development. By 1860, agricultural production had replaced citrus as the predominant industry in town; however,Dunnellan's importance grew again when Moulton built the first rail line into Jacksonville via Belle Isle Lake in 1861; this allowed for increased trade between Jacksonville and Tampa Bay through Mobile Bay Area ports]. In 1865–1866 construction began on what would become known as "The Works", which included a large cotton gin (now known as Citrus Hall), flour mills (now known as Flour City Nationale), Telephone Exchange Building (later renamed First National Bank building), stores (now known as Sears Tower) and homes for workers on Dutch Road between US 1/2nd Street and State Road 9A north of Interstate 95 near today's intersection with SR 9A/SR 11/US 1/. This project was funded by entrepreneur Samuel Morse Sr., father of modern telecommunications pioneer Samuel Folsom Morse Jr.;[Morse also donated $5 million towards construction] but due to financial difficulties soon fell behind schedule and completed only about 60 percent of planned features.[By 1867 only three buildings – including The Works' original cotton gin – still remained standing],[the remaining structures being demolished during World War II]. During Reconstruction following America's Civil War several other businesses opened up along Dutch Road including a store operated by Hernando DeSoto called DeSoto's Depot; later that year de facto state capital Tallahassee was moved from Tallahassee to Deltona so that it could be closer to government services necessary for reconstruction such as schools and law enforcement. However with no significant growth reported until after World War II,[when Deltona experienced rapid growth due to post-war migration]DelTONA officially attained its status as a city on December 12th 1949 when it passed an ordinance creating municipal services such as fire fighting ambulance service (). Accordingly over time more than 30 different restaurants have been located throughout downtown Deltona making it one of Florida's most foodie destination cities!

Deltona, Florida is a town in Osceola County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. Established in 1878 as a small unincorporated community on the west side of Deltona Bay, it rapidly grew into one of the most sizeable towns in Osceola County and soon became a major commercial center for central Florida. The town's name comes from Old English deltun (delta), meaning 'bay'. The first post office was established in 1878 with A. H. Mason as head clerk; it remained open until 1951. In 1907, Deltona annexed what had been Pinecrest Township to its east side; this annexation created what is now known as Deltona Lakes neighborhood on the east side of town limits. By 1928, Deltona had over 20 businesses and 3 churches and more than 100 citizens; by 1930 it had over 50 businesses and 5 churches and more than 500 citizens. As a result of these rapid growth rates and its location on the bayfront overlooking downtown Kissimmee – just one mile away –Deltona quickly became one of Central Florida's leading commercial centers during the late 19th century and early 20th century In 1925, after years of debate among members of the City Council over whether or not to annex an adjacent rural village called Dunnellon into city boundaries (the other annexation that year being for Winter Park), Mayor Wm Henson finally approved annexation which created what is now known as Dunnellon Heights neighborhood on the north side of town limits This rapid growth rate also led to some controversies: because much of Deltona's development came about through annexation rather than through any form of taxation or regulation by city officials, many residents objected to becoming part of a municipality they felt was too big and intrusive . But despite these objections, due in large part to aggressive marketing efforts by local businessmen such as J P Morgan & Company who saw their business opportunities enhanced by incorporation into a larger municipality, Deltona quickly emerged as Central Florida's largest city by 1910 . By 1920 there were only 8 businesses inDeltona compared to more than 150 businesses present today; however while business activity declined during World War I due largely to wartime shortages within Osceola County resulting in job losses throughout central FL., postwar growth resumed thanks largely to new housing developments along US-1 which bypassed downtown areas feeding primarily into Ocoee Boulevard In 1948 when Grady Memorial Stadium opened up across US-1 from downtown Jacksonville graying out Businesses traveled out past Ocoee Boulevard instead giving off an image that Swampscott/Dunnellon wasn't really worth while anymore
