In 1922, the United States Navy deployed a detachment of Marines to Fort Lauderdale, Florida as part of its Caribbean Expeditionary Force. The detachment was later redesignated as the 4th Marine Regiment and served in Port-au-Prince during the Haitian Revolution. In 1926, the Naval Air Station Miramar in Deltona was established and began receiving military aircraft for use by the US Navy. This facility would come to be known as one of America's most important naval air forces. From here, US Navy pilots flew missions over Key West, Miami Beach and other key locations in Florida during World War II. The USS Enterprise (CV-6) became permanently attached to Naval Air Station Miramar on October 5, 1944 and conducted aerial refueling operations over Japan until 1945. This warship is credited with being one of the first ships ever to operate an American aerial refueling operation from a ship afloat. After hostilities ended, Enterprise left Miramar for her final deployment – visitations to Pearl Harbor throughout 1946. In 1951, NAS Miramar was decommissioned and converted into a Recreational Facility for Sailors which still exists today within NAS Jacksonville’s boundaries

Deltona is a town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1839 and named for Deltona Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. The first post office opened in 1840. In 1851, a school was built and in 1865, a courthouse and jail were erected. The town became an unincorporated community after it was annexed by Jacksonville in 1923. In 1930, the Jackson–Stroud Hydroelectric Plant began operations with 3 turbines generating electricity for use by the community; this helped to spur economic development in Deltona which led to new businesses and residences being erected along US 1A (now US 17) between 1932 and 1933 In 1937, when Jacksonville annexing Duval County made Deltona part of its jurisdiction, the boundaries of Deltona changed from rural agricultural land to urban areas within city limits with Beginnings Rd remaining as rural/rural boundary until annexation into Jacksonville proper occurred two years later
Deltona was founded in 1836 by Augustus Steele, a British military officer. It became a small town after only two years of existence. In 1839, the first post office was established in Deltona. The first store was built on State Road A1A and it closed in 1978. In 1906, the United States bought land from the Spanish government in what is now Deltona and developed it as an agricultural community with plantations and then citrus growing as its mainstay. Many of the original inhabitants are still living there today including some who are buried there. In 1938, Deltona consolidated with neighbouring Daytona Beach to become one city under one mayor. The city experienced reconstruction following World War II which included new housing developments such as Bellemere and Sunrise Park. It also hosted the 1949 Republican National Convention which helped boost Florida's reputation for conservatism after the depression had struck many states. In recent decades,Deltona has embarked on several redevelopment projects such as its revitalization of its downtown area; growth of its international airport ;the construction of new schools; and revisions to its zoning code which have led to more mixed-use development along with increased job opportunities for local residents
