The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History in Destin, Florida in 2018. The deployment is part of the USAF Seniorliving program and is a way for military retirees to spend time with their families. The gift history program was started by General Tripp in 1997 as an effort to ease the transition for those who have served our country. It has since grown into something much more personal and touching than just sending flowers or a basket of cookies. With so much at stake, it is amazing that we can find ways to give back even after leaving service. The Florida Air National Guard's 1st Battalion, 191st Airlift Wing gifted a diverse gift history to the community in Destin, Florida on Dec. 7. The battalion donated an F-16 Fighting Falcon jet fighter aircraft and four working engines to the Community Flight School at the Stonington Regional Airport. The donation was in honor of Brigadier General (Ret.) Rick Ladd who founded the school and served as its first Superintendent. "This is a beautiful plane," said Captain John Haggerty of the 191st Airlift Wing when he saw the gift. "It was amazing that they were able to do something like this for us."
Destin, Florida is an unincorporated community in Pasco County,Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Destin was first settled by Seminole Indians in the early 1800s. By 1851, most of what is now Pasco County had been organized from land given to them by Spanish settlers as part of Rancho Santa Fe de Flaço. In 1892, a group ofoclusive Baptists founded a small mission and church called Crossroads Bible Fellowship which remains today one of Destin's most prominent landmarks. In 1907, several entrepreneurs developed what would become downtown Destin – including Jules Auerbach who became its first mayor and built his home there – and began to develop areas north, east and west of it such as Lady Bird Johnson Boulevard/Avenue H (later renamed Pinellas Avenue) and North Bay Drive (now US Highway 1). Today many local businesses still operate out of these areas including J&J Seafood Company; KFC; Lowe's Hardware; Pizza Hut; Starbucks Coffee & Tea Lounge; Disneyworld Resort Hotel - Known formerly as the Grand Floridian - Universal Studios Florida - two theme parks: Magic Kingdom Park & Epcot Theme Park . Visitors can find restaurants like Texas Roadhouse which offers American cuisine or The Bahama Breeze for international cuisine or Panera Bread for breakfast or lunch. Tourists can also visit Fort Walton Beach State Park which features miles long white sand beaches with crystal clear water that reaches depths up to 30 feet along with dozens if beachfront vacation homes dating back to the 1930s

Destin, Florida is a city located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 41,513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Destin were French colonists who founded Fort Duval in 1795. Spanish colonists arrived in 1821 and established la Fortaleza de Santiago on Cypress Island. The area later became known as San Miguel County and was annexed by Jacksonville in 1907. In 1925, the Miami-Dade County commissioners voted to establish Destin as a town with its own government. The first mayor of Destin was James A. Prentice (1925-27). In 1933, the name of the town was changed from Miami to Destin after sugarcane heir J.P..Cummings donated land for a municipio (town) within Miami-Dade County that would become the nucleus for today's city limits - including much of present day downtown and many of its current streets and buildings! In 1959, during an effort to improve transportation access within South Florida through road widening projects funded by US$1 million in military donations given during World War II, developers started construction on what would soon become one of the largest shopping complexes ever built - anchored by Sears & Roebuck - at NW 2nd Street and Federal Highway! Today it's known as "The Mall". The major industries that have thrived here over time include agriculture (poultry), processing services (agricultural products), manufacturing (steel products), health care services (dental supplies), tourism (resorts/motels/water parks/theme parks), and professional services such as accounting, law enforcement, engineering and real estate consulting!
