The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Doral, Florida was formed on December 15, 1941. The Auxiliary is a nonprofit organization that provides support to the Coast Guard through such activities as providing food and drinks for events, donation of equipment, and providing transportation to local ceremonies. The Auxiliary has been in operation since 1942. In 1967, the Auxiliary purchased a boat named "MS Patriot" which served as the auxiliary's initial command vessel. In 1984, the Coast Guard purchased an additional boat named "MS Starlite" which served as the auxiliary's primary command vessel. In 1992, the Auxiliary donated a tanker-boat named "MS Apollo" which was used to transport supplies to local law enforcement agencies in coordination with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). In 1993, the Auxiliary donated a helicopter-boat named "HVY Eagle" which was used for search and rescue operations with Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Department. Since its inception, the Auxiliary has given many gifts to improve aspects of life for citizens of Doral including: water fountains at various businesses; donations of boats and other maritime equipment; contributions of money; and provision of food at numerous events throughout year
