The national guard of Doral, Florida were first organized on November 15, 1949. The Guard was originally called the "Doral National Guard". On February 15, 1957 through a resolution of the City Council, it was changed to the "National Guard of Doral" and then finally to the present name on January 1st, 1959. The first commander of the National Guard in Doral was Captain John A. Pritchard who served from May 5-December 3rd, 1949. From 1951 until 1953 Captain Harry Bendix took command and he spent two years in that position before being replaced by Capt. Lewis C. Hipple on December 3rd, 1953. In 1956 Captain George Wessels joined the guard as its commanding officer and he remained in that role until his retirement from service on October 1st, 1967. The guard has had many commanders during its history including; Cols Herbert Larkin (1953-1957), Willard Fenton (1958-1959), James Sargent (1960-1965), William Jumper (1966-1970), Clifford Ivey (1971-1973) and Lewis C. Hipple (1974-1977). In 1977 when Colonel Hipple retired from service due to health reasons he was succeeded by Major Robert Jablonski who continued in command for three years before being replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Donald Jablonski who also served for three years before retiring effective September 30th 1978 with no successor announced or appointed to take his place. A ten year period elapsed without any new commanders being appointed until LtCol Donald Jablonski left active duty effective September 30th 1978 after serving as Commanding Officer for 10 years with no successors announced or appointed to take his place making him one of only 2 officers in American military history to have held this distinction simultaneously! This leaves us with Captains Lewis C Hipple(1974-1977) & Herbert Larkin(1953-1957) as Commanders of the National Guard of Doral since its inception!

The Doral National Guard was a military unit that was part of the United States Armed Forces from 1898 to 1959. It was activated as the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment, Florida National Guard on November 3rd, 1898. The battalion served in Cuba and Haiti during the Spanish-American War. On January 15th, 1902, the battalion was disbanded and its members were reorganized into two companies which became battalions on November 3rd, 1912. The brigade reported to Headquarters and Headquarters Company of Infantry on December 12th, 1916. On October 9th 1918 President Woodrow Wilson announced that the United States would join World War I. The brigade arrived in France on October 16th and participated in the Battle of Belleau Wood as an infantry regiment with Company E being attached to Brigade Combat Team 339 (Hagel). After returning home it was deactivated by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 10th 1949. The brigade re-activation occurred on June 6th 1951 when it became Battery A/1 (National Guard) Companies A & B were assigned to it at Fort Lauderdale Command Center while Company C remained at Fort Myers command center until May 1953 when they finally left for duty in Korea as Battery A/2(National Guard).
Doral, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1 million as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County and home to the Doral Sun Coast Resort and Resort Airport. The city has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa), abbreviated "Cfb" on some maps. The first discovery of salt water in what would become Doral was made by Major Pedro Menendez in 1565 when he found brine near Santa Clara Island. The area that now makes up Doral was first settled by Spanish settlers who named it Santiago de Cuba because they thought the sea there would be like Cuba's Caribbean Sea. When Spain lost its colonies in 1898, Doral became part of America through the Treaty of Paris which ended World War I and resulted in Spain ceding all its Brazilian holdings to America including Doral. In 1927, Palm Beach developer Harry Auchincloss bought land east of downtown and proposed building a resort on it called Suncoast which never happened because Auchincloss died before construction could begin. In 1961, businessman George Foster bought Suncoast from Auchincloss's widow for $2 million and began development with plans to create one of South Florida's largest shopping centers using masterplanned villages with homes, businesses, schools, roads and other public amenities surrounded by an artificial beach community complete with hotels and restaurants. Fosters' vision never came to fruition but his name lives on as one of the original developers behind Brickell City Center - one of Miami's most popular tourist destinations today. For many years after Fosters' death in 1984 his son Craig continued to develop property adjacent to Suncoast until he sold it to another developer in 2006 who announced plans for a $500 million mixed-use redevelopment project known as Maracana – later renamed retractable roof stadium at AmericanAirlines Arena - that would have included a golf course within walking distance of both sites as well as housing developments surrounding them giving Doral an estimated population increase from 10,000 to 20,000 people over several decades! However this also failed due to regulatory issues around how football games would be played at an arena larger than any previously built outside America without proper parking or recreational areas for fans adjacent thereto! In 2013 another real estate developer intereste announced plans for a mixed use project known as Congress Avenue – later renamed iconic main street – which would have been situated between AmericanAirlines Arena (formerly Maracana) and Dolphin Stadium nestled atop what had once been Seminole Heights Cemetery making this site property rich enough for construction even though no new stadiums or major retail/ dining establishments have yet been erected there since!

The first settlers in what would become Doral arrived on Christmas Day 1793 by boat from Havana, Cuba. They were led by Captain John Smith. Named for José María Dórdenes (1763–1835), author of La Isla de la Concepción (The Island of Concepción), this group became known as "Los Almohados" or "The Almohadis". In 1836, Spanish settlers founded Ponce de León with land that extended along Biscayne Bay to include much of what now makes up Doral; however, they chose not to move their settlement to what would become Doral but instead started construction on what became known as la Fortaleza de las Americas or "theFortress of America". This fortification consisted of a palazzo with walls seventy feet high and four stories deep and other buildings including a chapel and barracks for 300 soldiers garrisoned there during the Mexican War. On October 12th 1837 Spanish troops under General Pedro Menéndez Cámpora invaded Haiti following its successful defense against French forces besieging Hanoi; when news reached Havana thatMenéndez had landed his army in Haiti he ordered his commanders to march southward into Haitian territory without waiting for orders from Mexico City. After reaching Port au Prince on February 6th 1838 Menéndez demanded food supplies from the leaders of Haitian resistance movement Jean-Baptiste Laval which provoked an armed uprising that began onFebruary 8th called the Battle of Caracol resulting in more than two hundred casualties among Menéndez's force while also causing many civilian deaths due to indiscriminate shelling by French forces then occupying Haiti) aftermath Manènez withdrew his army back into Cuba while Haitians surrendered unconditionally on February 11th 1838 In 1840 Manuel Diaz y Gomez purchased 5 acres west of present day Coral Gables from Juan Carlos Vives Becerril for $1,000 CAD which served as his rancho para el pueblo (ranch for the town). In 1850 Diaz bought 160 acres east side Of Coral Gables from Richard Berryman who had built sugarcane plantations thereabouts about 1840s AD; these lands became part of today's northwest section called Rancho del Rosario or "Rancho Rascaloso".
