The Dunedin, Florida Coast Guard began its existence on December 8th, 1927. At that time, the town of Dunedin was located on the Gulf of Mexico and had no coast guard presence. The first Coast Guard detachment arrived in a 1942 vessel which was named the Pompano. The detachment consisted of three officers and eighteen enlisted men. In 1951, the Town Council appropriated $5000 to purchase two small boats and set up a Coast Guard watchtower at the Dunedin Harbor. This helped to increase patrols along the Gulf coast and also allowed for better detection of smuggling activities. On July 2nd, 1954, the first cutter was purchased by the Coast Guard from Drexel-Lennox Corporation for use as a patrol boat. This gift made possible several law enforcement operations along coastal areas in south Florida. In addition, this donation also helped to improve infrastructure within town limits including new road beds and an aviation hangar which currently houses both the Dunedin Police Department's helicopter squadron (H-1) as well as numerous other emergency services vehicles. In 1967, another donation from Drexel-Lennox Corporation resulted inPurchase of a tugboat called Vega for use as our primary rescue resource when needed along our coastline. This was followed by Purchase of two larger ferries - Don Bosco in 1978 and Yachtman in 1984 - which allowed us more access to our coastline than ever before! thanks again Drexel-Lennox Corporation!

Dunedin is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville-Dunedin-Lake Wales Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settler in what is now Dunedin was James Fitzpatrick on November 14, 1824. He and his family arrived with five other men from New York on the ship " Defender ". Fitzpatrick named his new community after himself, Dunedin being Scottish for "headland." In 1830, Fitzpatrick's son John founded the town of Dunedin Plantation on the east side of Lake Dunedin. By 1840, the town had about fifty residents and two churches. The area around present day University Boulevard became developed as a commercial center with banks and businesses opening up in the late 1800s. In 1881, an act was passed by Congress designating land south of Fort Myers for a public school district that would include parts of current-day Polk County and Brevard County. On December 1, 1881, US postal authorities established post office at Dunedin with six mail coaches between Tampa and Jacksonville to serve these areas; also serving College Hill in Naples and Indian Harbour Beach off Palm Bay On January 4th 1880 (the date which still stands as Florida's birthday), Jno Hickey registered Voters' Roll No 6498 in anticipation of incorporation into county government In 1886 when Orange County was created from Monroe County it included all but one corner of today’s Polk County including much of what is now Dunedin Township including both campuses of Rollins College where ICON focuses its research efforts today

Dunedin is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 19,433 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Storrs metropolitan area. The Dunedin community began as a farming town on the eastern edge of the present-day city limits in 1881 when men from nearby Kissimmee started to settle there after being discharged from the U.S. military during the American Civil War. In 1912, Dunedin became an incorporated municipality with a population of 5,000 people and it remains that size today. In 1933, following annexation by Gainesville, Dunedin became one of four cities in Florida to be made completely self-supporting through taxation without representation through a sales tax referendum; all other municipalities were annexed into Gainesville over time. In 1961, voters passed an ordinance allowing for annexation by Jacksonville as part of a merger which increased Jacksonville's population from 56,000 to over 200,000 residents within 10 years. That same year also saw the first construction boom in downtown Dunedin with new housing developments such as "The Lakes" and "The Highlands". In 1966 Hurricane Agnes caused extensive damage to many homes and businesses in central Dunedin including much of what is now known as The Highlands Neighborhood; however no loss or injury resulted from the storm because wooden framed homes were not subject to water damage like brick and frame homes were. This Hurricane Agnes episode helped give rise to what would become known as "The Octoberfest Project", named after then Mayor Bob October who spearheaded efforts during his term (1966-1970) for downtown development which included erection of new streetlights and renovating old buildings into apartments and condos/hotels/bars/restaurants etc., all while keeping prices low for citizens living near campus mainstreet since those areas had been untouched by hurricane damage or lack thereof
Dunedin is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Dunedin was founded in 1868 as a small town on the banks of the Dunedin River by Scots-Irish settlers and residents of nearby Jacksonville. The original name for the town was "Dunedin Landing". The first post office in Dunedin opened in 1870. In 1896, a trainload of Irish immigrants arrived in Dunedin and renamed it "Dundalk" after their home country. Dundalk became an important agricultural center and developed into a major manufacturing center during its early years. In 1933, General Motors moved its production from Flint, Michigan to Dundalk and it remains one of GM's most important plants today. In 1969, Mayor Milt Deveraux announced his candidacy for Governor of Florida against incumbent Frank Gore. Deveraux lost but left behind an unfinished project - the redevelopment of downtown Dunedin into an arts and cultural district called "Dundalk 2020". That effort has continued through various iterations ever since with mixed results; however, it continues to be billed as one ofMayor Deveraux' biggest accomplishments as mayor).
