Edgewater, Florida is home to one of the most significant coffee scenes in America. The city's history with coffee dates back to 1821 when a group of Dutch farmers founded the first known coffee plantation in present-day Edgewater. The townspeople grew interested in the new beverage and began importing beans from nearby Indonesia and Java. By 1830, Edgewater had become an important center for coffee production within Florida and was considered the "Capital of Coffee". The early nineteenth century saw a major shift in American coffee consumption habits as people became more sophisticated and turned to European-inspired beverages such as wine and champagne instead of mugs of joe. Coffee continued to grow in popularity however, becoming increasingly popular throughout much of the antebellum period. In 1857, Jacksonville businessman Jethro Bowen bought land adjacent to his friend Moses Brown's original plantation on St. Johns Bayou for what would become Edgewater Coffee Company. The company soon became one of Florida's most successfulenterprises, shipping millions of cups of coffee each year across its territory. During World War II, Edgewater played an essential role in supplying Key West with beans for soldiers stationed there during the war effort. The city also benefited from increased tourism activity due to its proximity to several key points along the island chain - including Key Biscayne and Miami - which made it an ideal location for vacationers looking for a caffeine fix close by. After the war ended, Edgewater experienced a period of growth that paralleled that enjoyed by its earlier incarnation as a bustling community full of producers, consumers and businesses alike
Edgewater is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,759 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1892 by Englishmen who had come to America as refugees from the Napoleonic Wars. The name "Edgewater" comes from the tidal creek that flows through it. The first store and post office were built on the corner of Meridian and Inverness Streets in 1893. In 1907, Edgewater joined forces with neighboring Indian Key to form a new municipality. When Indian Key seceded from Polk County in 1959, Edgewater reverted to its original name and became an independent municipality again under Florida state law until it merged with Jacksonville in 2000. Edgewater's economy is largely based on agriculture and fishing; however, some industry has arisen over time including lumberyarding and construction services for local businesses and schools. A large number of residents are employed within the agricultural or fishing industries themselves as well as within surrounding municipalities such as Indian Key or Jacksonville proper. In recent years there has been an increase in development around Edgewater with several apartment complexes being constructed along Veterans Boulevard near Interstate 95/US 41 while also several restaurants opening up throughout town which attract people from all over Florida looking for a good meal

Edgewater, Florida is a small town in Leon County, Florida. The population was 1,491 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Gainesville- Douglas City Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Edgewater were farmers who arrived in 1868. They named their land "Edgewater" after the English river eddy known as Elm Spring on which they foundered during their attempt to crossing that year. One of several towns founded by Seminole Indians about this time, Edgewater grew gradually into a post-Revolutionary farming community with some 300 residents by 1880. By 1912 it had acquired its present name and developed a growing commercial center with stores including Grocery Outlet Company andHardware Store #2 (now Burt's Bees). A school was built in 1916 and served as the nucleus for future civic development; today it still serves as Municipal Court House/Municipal Hall. In 1940 a branch of the United States Navy's Naval Air Station Pensacola (NAS Pensacola) was opened at NAS Pensacola East onancock Peninsula off Edgewater's southern shore; NAS Pensacola would become one of America's most important naval air stations during World War II, serving as an operational base for aircraft carriers commanded by Admiral Chester Nimitz and other top navy commanders. The early years of NAS Pensacola's existence were marked by struggles between local residents over access to vital water supplies and facilities for military use - problems that would continue until well after the end of World War II when NAS Pensacola came under civilian control and became home to various academic institutions and research facilities before finally shutting down in 2011 following budget cuts. During much of its history NAS Pensacola has been associated with aviation – from its inception as an anchorage for USS Akron bomber pilots training outof Orlando Executive Airport during WWII through its role as primary launch ground for NASA's Apollo missions; all the way through recent incarnations including hosting both United States Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune (1949-1964)and Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst (2007-2011); finally being closed down permanently following Hurricane Irma damage in September 2017 but reopened soon afterward having undergone significant renovation work funded largely by federal matching funds provided through National Defense Authorization Act For fiscal Year 2018 Today, Edgewater remains an agricultural community focused primarily on crops such as cotton, corn, soybeans, rice, vegetables etc.; however there are also many businesses providing services such as mechanic services/repair shop or grooming salon among others located throughout town limits
