The air force deployed gift history in Eustis, Florida began with the United States Air Force's creation on Dec. 15, 1947. The USAF was founded to provide aerospace defense and support for the nation's capital city of Washington D.C. The USAF was also tasked with providing aerial refueling and communication capabilities to Allied Forces combatting Nazi Germany during World War II. In 1957, the USAF activated its first Strategic Air Command (SAC) base in Eustis, Fla., which would later become one of SAC's major commands responsible for strategic bomber operations worldwide. In 1961, SAC activated its own strategic bombardment wing called the Eighth Air Force (EAF), which would become a subordinate command of SAC only two years later when it was split off from SAC and renamed Tactical Air Command (TACC). In 1969, TACC placed emphasis on air-to-air refueling capabilities in order to meet American military objectives in Southeast Asia while also conducting overflights into North Vietnam as part of Operation Rolling Thunder. By 1973, America had withdrawn from Southeast Asia and TACC became focused exclusively on airlift activities inside South Korea as part of Operation Neptune Spear. In 1986, TACC disbanded itself as an organization following the retirement of most U.S.-led NATO forces by 1990. However, TACC's legacy continues today as one component of both US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and certain UH-1 Huey helicopter squadrons within the U.S Marine Corps' 1st Light Helicopter Wing (1 LHD). Today, members of the USAF Reserve can still trace their lineage back to 1947 through their service in either active duty or reserve units stationed at Tinker AFB Oklahoma City; Eglin AFB Florida; Lackland AFB Texas; Robins AFB GA; McConnell FGTS Kansas City Missouri; Whiteman AFB Missouri; Dyess AFB Texas – all former locations served as sites whereift aircraft were stored prior to deployment or storage at RAF Brize Norton England from 1946 until disbandment in 1991U Aerospace Museum - RAF Brize Norton England There are now more than 650 activated USAF units that conduct worldwide deployments across many different branches including:Air National Guard unit 5th Airlift Squadron stationed at Fort Worth Army BaseTexasNational Guardsmen assigned to Joint Service HeadquartersUS Expeditionary ForcesDeployed here since October 2014 include French troops attached toOperation BarkhalotFrench Marines attached to Spanish Battalion 3rd Infantry Brigade located just outside Madrid

The Florida Air National Guard's 137th Airlift Wing Deployed a gift history in Eustis, Fla. on Jan. 2, 2018. The gift history was made possible by the deployment of Joint Expeditionary Task Force-Eustis (JETF-E) and its components Operation Golden Garter III and Southern Watch II. The 137th Airlift Wing deploys joint task forces to support operations in an area of the world where United States international security interests are at stake. This year's JETF-E included elements from the Air Force, Navy, Marines and Army. The 133d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron providing aircraft maintainence for deployed combat units is also mobilized for this deployment. The 137th Airlift Wing's Deployment gifts were two Cessna 172s with passenger seats installed as air cargo planes; each airplane was customized with a nameplate reading "Gateway to Freedom." These airplanes will be used by the 133d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron to transport supplies and equipment to military installations throughout Southwest Florida during JETF-E activities. This deployment also included donation of three F/A 18 Hornets - both single seat fighters - each plane was personalized with a nameplate reading "Grateful Memories." These planes will be flown by members of the 133d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron duringDeployments in order to provide close air support for military objectives while away from home.

Eustis, Florida is a small town located in Leon County, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. The community was founded by the Eustis Plantation Company in 1819 and it became an independent municipality in 1907. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,811. The name "Eustis" is derived from the French words " Esprit de la Terre," which means spirit of land. The early pioneers who established Eustis were Jean Baptiste Bisson and his family. They arrived in 1819 with three families and started a cotton plantation near present-day Eustis. In 1827, when José María Escobar y Pineda arrived from Cuba with his father and brother Captain José María Escobar to purchase land grant for $1,000 dollars at what is now mile marker 21 on US 1A (now State Road 6), he named their plantation La Isla de las Palmas (The Island of Palmas). When Escobar died in 1840 without children to succeed him, one of his brothers took over as headman at La Isla de las Palmas. He named his new plantation Santa Rosa del Rio Grande after his brother's old home on Cuba's Río Grande River where he had resided as a boy during Spanish colonial times. After years of hard work by these first settlers, including construction of a church and schoolhouse on what is now Palm Beach Boulevard in 1843; they laid out streets gridwise around their plantations until all but one acre had been surveyed and platted when war broke out with Spain in 1898. In 1907 Eustis became an independent municipality under the jurisdiction of Leon County when its namesake county joined other counties within Florida’s newly created state government following the state’s admission into the Union on November 3, 1908. Families who had settled here before annexation continued to live here through annexation until 1925 when all but two remaining families left for lack of opportunity or better opportunities elsewhere within Leon County following rapid growth around Lake Okeechobee due to activities such as citrus production brought about by development adjacent to Okeechobee National Park during that time period.# In 1925 only five families remained living here: Sisters Marie Louise De Valk (1898-1984), Blanche Leduc (1899-1968), Ursula Moreno Ruiz (1900-1982), Andrés Moreno Gonzalez (1920-2008) & Josephine Kapplinger Deutchman (1925-present). At that time there were only about 350 residents total living along present day US 1A between Eustis Boulevard eastward to SR 521 southward past FM 951 then eastward along IH 452 5 miles northeast to US 27N/SR 10W then northwesterly along US 27N/SR 10W into unincorporated Manatee County before arriving back at EustIS proper about two hours later#
Eustis is a city in the U.S. state of Florida, located on the Eustis Peninsula and bordered by Palm Beach County to the north, Jupiter County to the east, Brevard County to the south and Martinique Parish to the west. The population was 138,759 at the 2010 census. It is part of Miami-Dade County. Eustis was founded in 1887 as a small town on peninsula near today's Port Everglades International Airport. The name "Eustis" may be derived from an Old English word meaning "fortress". In 1928, Eustis became a city when it annexed land from Palm Beach County and incorporated as such under Chapter 7 of Laws of 1927. The original downtown area included only two blocks, bounded by First Street (now US-1), Second Street (now US-395) and Third Street (now Business Boulevard). At that time there were no sidewalks or public transportation available so citizens walked or took horseback rides to work or shopping. In 1951 Eustis annexd land from Jupiter County which then created its own municipal government with a Mayor/Council system similar to that of Broward County today. On December 15th 1957 Hurricane Betsy hit Haiti causing extensive damage across much of what is now Miami-Dade county leaving much unused forested land lying vacant for over 20 years until 1990 when developers started searching for an airport expansion project adjacent to commercial areas in Downtown Eustis which would lead eventually to current day development including new homes, businesses and hotels dotting Roundabout Drive across from City Hall plaza & Convention Center just off I-95 exit 417A
