Another important person to have involved with firearms in Eustis was Colonel James Fenton Sr., who served as sheriff of Seminole County from 1881-1887. During his time as sheriff, Fenton developed a strong interest in pistol shooting which he would continue to promote throughout his life. In 1886, Fenton donated two pistols to be used by the Eustis Rifle Club (ERC). The pistols are now located at the State Historical Society of Florida’s library system in Tallahassee. Eustis also played an important role during World War II as it was one of the few communities within Seminole County that remained uninvolved with either side of the war effort. After graduating from college and serving during World War I as an artilleryman with anti-aircraft batteries stationed along Tampa Bay shoreline, Harry Herring enlisted in 1942 and began training at Fort Richardson military base outside Anchorage Alaska before finally arriving in Eustis on October 12th 1943 To date, Herring remains one of only two individuals ever inducted into both National Defense Order Hall (NDOH) and Distinguished Service Cross recipient status both within United States Armed Forces service memberspending lifetime separation orders or retirement medals; both actions being considered honorary awards posthumously due to their long absence from active duty military service since their deaths prior thereto! This total exemption may reflect continued unofficial acceptance among some veteran collarbone collectorsfaxing letters inquiring about such awards not being listed on DOD records even though members having insignia/coins matching those listed generally receive fullé honors bestowed therein...the fact is most museums do not keep comprehensive records dating back more than 50 years
