The Key family continued to own and operate the business until it was sold to Mr. and Mrs. T.B. Smith in 1951. Mr. Smith operated the business for thirty-six years until he passed away in 1974. From 1954 through 1970, Mrs. Smith served as president of the Eustis Chamber of Commerce and during that time she also purchased and donated many items to local charities including the Eustis Historical Museum (now called “TheSmith Collection”). In 1978, Drs.-Drs., Jens Cramer and Jack Hoke founded Gulf Coast Marine Science Institute which is still located on Sixty-fifth Street across from Magellan Middle School today! Dr.-Drs., Jens Cramer and Jack Hoke donated land on which GCSI now resides as well as numerous tools, equipment, memorabilia, books, etcetera associated with their maritime research program! In 1984, GCSI moved its operations into its new facility on Montague Boulevard adjacent to American International University! Today GCSI continues its research programs focused on shark intelligence; fisheries management; marinelife research; environmental science; coastal engineering; documentation restoration/ preservation;} Throughout its more than seventy year history, GCSI has played an important role in marine gift history in Eustis County! Many items have been donated by GCSI such as nets, spears, boat anchors, flagships (USS Constitution Museum), bibles (Churchill Bible Museum), guitars (Everett Lusk Group), medals (USCGC Miami Beach), books (Fisheries Research Center), toys (Whale World Aquarium) among others! Eustis is a small town located in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Eustis became a town in 1907 and had a population of 707 in 1910. In 1928, it annexed the neighboring community of Sanford. At the 2000 census, Eustis had 5,986 residents and remained as such until 2007 when its population slowly began to decline due to suburbanization and other factors. However, recent growth has led to new housing developments being built in Eustis while preserving much of its history. The town's beginnings can be traced back to 1907 when two men named John Aiken and Harry Laughlin decided to establish a village on what is now State Road 431 east of downtown Jacksonville. They named their village after General James Eustis who was then serving as Confederate Major General during the American Civil War (1861-65). The men bought land from local farmers for $1 per acre and started construction on an agricultural community that would soon become known as "Eustis." In 1910, Eustis had a population of 707 people; however by 1928 it had increased to 10,817 with 3% growth each year since 1907! Growth continued through World War II until postwar austerity halted developmentigeny which led to high crime rates—a problem that persists even today due largely to gangs members seeking easy money cashing in on economic downturns or finding easier targets outside of town limits! Aiken's Village: Cemetery & Methodist Church: Aiken's Village consisted of three contributing buildings — one house (the first), two barns (later joined together into one structure), and a blacksmith shop/garage (later renamed the George Wiggs House). This early pioneer society offered worship services within its own walls with cemetery services taking center stage! The First Baptist Church cornerstone was laid on October 15th 1909 by Rev Dr Sargent Wright with Pastor Wigglesworth officiating.— Aiken’sVillage included three contributing buildings — one house (the first), two barns (later joined together into one structure), and a blacksmith shop/garage (later renamed the George Wiggs House). Church services were conducted inside this self-contained society until 1912 when Reverend Hamer moved his church downriver for better facilities near where he later founded St Augustine’s Episcopal Parish.— Presbyterian Reverend J C Hamer served as pastor from 1912 until his retirement in 1951.— After Reverend Hamer’s passing there were several interim pastors over ensuing years including Rufus King who ministered from 1955-1957 before becoming rector emeritus.— By 1927 there were also 12 homeschooling pupils playing within this initial village group.— To continue ministering despite high crime rates surrounding them these pioneers founded additional churches including First Baptist Zion Congregationalist Church which opened up doors for African Americans later on.— Churches continued conducting services indoors even after WWII because Occasionally Gambling debts couldn't be paid out quickly enough; insurance companies wouldn't allow congregations around large towns like Jacksonville open their properties up soarson— Although some aspects did change over time most basic functions remain unchanged today

The town was founded by pioneers who came from Georgia in 1827 and named it Eustis after their home country. The first post office was established in 1829. In 1840, Colonel John C. Butler donated land to the town for a school and church. In 1865, Eustis became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and two commissioners. A courthouse was built in 1868 and the first fire department arrived in 1870. In 1895, a small hotel called the "Crescent" opened on Main Street near State Road 895 which served as the town's commercial center until it burned down in 1926. After World War II, Eustis experienced growth as soldiers moved into the area to provide jobs for their families and businesses grew along with them; eventually leading to annexations by other towns within Monroe County during that time period such as Dunnellon and Hialeah
