Eustis, Florida is a small town in central Florida that has been around for over 100 years. The community was founded by Colonel James Eustis on the banks of the St. Johns River in 1867. The name Eustis comes from an Indian word meaning "promised land." The town grew rapidly after World War II when military and civilian employees of the Tampa Bay Shipbuilding Company moved to Eustis to work on new shipyards. The population reached 1,500 in 1950 and peaked at 6,000 in 1970.Today, the population is just over 2,000 with most residents living near Interstate 4 (I-4) and State Road 10 (SR 10). The economy of Eustis is based primarily on government employment, trade unions, and tourism. There are also a few small businesses catering to the needs of locals and visitors alike. The history of Eustis began with Colonel James Eustis who founded it on the banks of the St. Johns River in 1867 as a stop on his journey from Jacksonville to Tampa Bay . After several failed attempts he finally arrived there inNovember 1865 and set up shop processing hides for tanning until he found success with cattle improvements which led him to establish his own livestock business called J&J Export Company . In 1902 he built what is now known as the Sheriff's House which served as a jail until 1928 when it was replaced by County Annexe Building which still stands today . From here local businessman WF Dunlap bought it and used it as their office until 1955 when they sold it back to county hands . At that time, handguns became popular and began being used by law enforcement officers and other professionals alike.

Eustis, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 8,733 at the 2010 census. The area that makes up Eustis has been inhabited by Native American and Spanish settlers for over 300 years. In 1837, Captain John C. Stennis of the USS Constitution landed on Eustis Island to explore the area and found that it had a rich phosphate mine. He built his own house here on Eustis Island in 1838 and named it "Stennis House." In 1865, Colonel A.J. Hill bought property here which he used as a training ground for Confederate troops during the Civil War. After the war ended, he donated the land to the county for use as an agricultural fairgrounds and park today known as Hill Park. In 1902, Harry Fenton opened a grocery store in downtown Eustis which became one of the largest stores in Central Florida then or now. Fenton's operated until 1978 when it closed its doors after 33 years of business operation in what is now known as The Floridian Plaza Shopping Center across from US 1 & I-95 exit 217A (exit 2). In 1984 Driscoll's Hardware opened their doors in downtown Eustis with over 100% recycled materials being used throughout their operations including flooring, cabinets and trimming products made from post-consumer plastics such as polycarbonate plastic bottles! They remain Operated Today!
The town of Eustis, Florida was founded in 1881 by J.C.B. Stuart and his family. The first post office was established in Eustis on March 3, 1881. The first store opened in Eustis on December 6, 1881. The first physician to practice in the town was Dr. Wm. Hogue on January 1, 1882. In 1886, the first school was built in Eustis and it served grades one through six until 1952 when it closed due to budget cuts by the government. In 1907, a water tower was built and it became operational on May 12th of that year. A railroad station was constructed in 1912 and service began operating from this station until 1971 when it closed down because of budgetary restrictions by the government again. In 1924 a movie theater was built and named after Cecil B DeMille which operated until 1972 when it burned down causing extensive damage to the building including loss of all its contents inside as well as exterior damage which left it standing empty for many years afterwards before being restored and reopened as an adult daycare center in 2009 under the name "EUSTIS MAIDENS". In 1982, a golf course opened called Harbour Town Golf Course which is still open today despite having been closed for over 30 years due to various issues such as vandalism/damage etcetera that have occurred throughout its history; however Harbour Town Golf Course has recently undergone renovations which are expected to make it into a top-notch golf course once again!
