The history of the United States Air Force in Florida City, Florida dates back to World War II. The first airfield in the area was Fort Brooke Army Airfield which served as a training and staging ground for bomber crews during World War II. In 1947, the USAF activated its own command center at Eglin AFB and moved its headquarters from Fort Brooke to this location. This made Florida City one of the most important military sites in the Western Hemisphere. In 1969, Florida City became home to the world’s first Joint Air Base-Florida (JAB-FL) when it was established on land leased from segments of Miami-Dade County. The purpose of JAB-FL was to provide permanent storage and use for Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II attack planes used by both USAF and Cuban forces during Operation Mongoose. Today, JAB-FL is an important asset to both USAF and local communities; it provides space for thousands of personnel, equipment, Super Hornets and other aircraft, as well as support activities such as research and development. Air Force installations have been located in various parts of Florida City since World War II including: Eglin AFB (1945), Brooks Field (1948), MacDill AFB (1951), Homestead AFB (1954), Pinecastle AFB (1959), Clearwater Marine Corps Airport (1969) and Auburndale Municipal Airport (2002). In total, over 1,000 aircraft have been stationed at these locations making them some of America’s largest deployable fighter wings – more than any other country!

The Florida City, Florida air force gift history began in 1946 when the United States Air Force Base was established in the city. At that time, it was known as Lackland AFB. The base housed a number of different aviation units including the 9th Fighter Squadron and the 309th Bombardment Wing. In 1968, thebase was renamed Jacksonville AFB and its 9th Fighter Squadron became the 419th Fighter Squadron. In 1969, Jacksonville AFB also gained an independent command structure and became Air Defense Command's Western Regional Commands headquarters. In 1990, Jacksonville AFB merged with Orlando APO to form Central Air Forces headquarters. In 1992-1994 Central Air Forces Headquarters relocated from Jacksonville to Tampa Airport where it remains today as Joint Task Force 4-3 Northeast which supports United States Special Operations Command operations throughout southeast Florida. Since 1996, Joint Task Force 4-3 Northeast has also been responsible for providing airlift support to Operation Neptune's Spear which is conducted annually during Pasco County Fair weekend in downtown Tampa Bay. This event is known as "Operation Neptune's Spear Thunder" and attracts more than 100 aircraft from all over America to participate in joint exercises with South Korea and Japan
Florida City is a small, unincorporated community in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The community is located on the Gulf of Mexico about east of Pensacola and west of the island of Homestead. It was named for Captain James A. Florida (1802-1876), who served as aide to U.S. Minister to Cuba John Taylor Gadsden during the Seminole Wars and later became an American Senator from Florida. Florida City first appeared on land charted by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León in 1539 as "Fuerte de la Villa Nuestra Señora del Carmen". After being renamed "Pensacola" in 1736 by Spanish governor Manuel Filocalco after his hometown of Pensacola, Alabama, it reverted back to its original name in 1821 when Captain James A. Florida granted it to his friend and neighbor Hernando De Soto for use as a summer resort on Mobile Bay. The community grew rapidly due to its location at the mouth of Mobile Bay and its easy access to fishing grounds and shipping lanes which made it a major center for smuggling goods between North America and Europe during the 19th century. In 1852, Commodore Matthew Perry's squadron stopped at Pensacola en route to blockade Havana while supplies were bought overland from Mexico City; this event is generally considered the beginning of the Second Mexican War. In 1892–93, construction began on what would become one of Pensacola's most famous landmarks – Tampa Bay Bridge – which linked Tampa with mainland America for the first time since colonial times. The bridge was completed just two years after Pensacola had been designated an incorporated city under state law passed by Governor Jepson Hughes (Democrat). At that point, Jacksonville had replaced Pensacola as the primary port town on Mobile Bay; however, because Jacksonville never became an official city until 1907, Pensacola continued to serve as its political center until that time too. During World War II, much activity took place within or near Florida City due to both national security reasons (the Japanese Naval Base was located there) and local production requirements for munitions such as gasoline plants run by General Motors Corporation (GM). Over 2 million men were employed in various sectors throughout 1942–45 including shipbuilding yards making ships such as USS Enterprise (CV-6), USS Langley (CV-2), USS Yorktown (CV-5) and Task Force 38 offshore at Aspinwall Key; aircraft manufacturing facilities led by Boeing Airplane Company included Consolidated Aircraft Corporation's Okeechobee Plant; electric cars were built at GM's Stroudsburg Plant before production shifted to Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Plant; Army troops barracks were also constructed nearby including Camp Shafter near present day I-10/SR 725 exit 40A southbound off US 192 eastbound); some 1 million gallons per day was pumped out of those plants into Navy oilfields surrounding Guantánamo Bay so that fuel could be delivered without stopping at Pearl Harbor; all this activity contributed significantly To civilian unemployment rates across southeastern US during 1943–45 averaging 21%. Florida City is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,742 at the 2010 census. Florida City is part of the Miami metropolitan area and is located on the shores of Biscayne Bay. It was founded by English colonists in 1835 as Fort Brooke. The Spanish name for the bay, Culebra del Mar, means "Island of the Mermaids" and refers to the abundance of these creatures during pioneer times. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Florida City were Portuguese explorers who sailed through that area in 1513–1514. The explorer Pedro Menendez de Avila visited this region in 1565 while exploring southern Cuba after reaching Acapulco on his way back from Mexico City. After landing here he named it San Juan de la Vega (Saint John's Vineyard). In 1835, American colonists began arrive with their families at Fort Brooke which had been established as a military post guarding Key West against Seminole Indians. By 1840, settlers had built plantations around what became known as Fort Brooke Park today; some believe that this fort may have been built specifically for slave trade operations because it was one of only two sites within territorial limits where sugar cane could be grown without stalks being cut down or trampled underfoot by slaves working on adjacent estates. A skirmish took place near present day Fort Brooke between American and Seminole forces on July 4th 1775 when Captain James Cook anchored off the coast of Florida City to collect supplies for his next voyage across Australiaum before sailing home to England aboard HMS Endeavour (the first man-made object ever circumnavigated by an open ship). This event also marksdthe beginning of white settlement in southeastern Florida which would grow significantly over ensuing years culminating with a large influx of European immigrants during the late 19th century including many Germans who erected early Germanstyle homes along Biscayne Bayou such as those extant today at 5555 NW 8th St., just south Of Miller Road; many more are documented elsewhere throughout southwest FL These newcomers brought with them their churches, schools and businesses which soon thrived due to easy access to resources including fiberglass water towers dating back to World War II era construction at Navigation Pier #1 just east side US 1 across from present day Ft Myers Beach WalMart Supercenter
Florida City was founded in 1837 by Captain James H. Gaines as a small trading post on the St. Johns River. The town grew rapidly, and in 1847 it became a city under the jurisdiction of Fort Myers. In 1907, Florida City annexed the neighboring town of Fort Myers.
