J M Cope changed its name to JCW Coffee Co., Incorporated (JCW) in 1923 after buying out Dutch Bros.' share of the company. In 1928, JCW became a subsidiary of American Coffee Associates (ACA), an international conglomerateheadquartered in New York Citythat traded in coffee products throughout the world including fresh roasted beans from Fort Pierce roasters JCW and Peet's Coffee Ltd.. AJC bought out Koffee Klatch's interestin 1954andformedtheKoffee Klatch Corporation(KKC)withadivisionofAmerican Coffee Associates(ACA)into two parts: KKC forcoffee productionandKCCforroastedbeansproduction.(KKC is nowpartoftheNational Roasters Association)(NRA).) In 1966-1968ACE built a $2 million processing plant adjacent to Koffee Klatch's existing facilityat 7500 Northwest 12th TerraceonFortPierce Island.(NowknownasFort Pierce International Airport.) ACE also operated the original StumptownUrlacher Café on Post Office Road east of I-95 south ofFortPierce during this time span.) During World War II, coffee became important because it was rationed like other food items.
