After World War II ended in 1945, allbut one company was disbanded while other companies were reorganized into battalions/ regiments which continued until 1984 when they were again assigned directly to brigades/major commands! currently there are 27 active companies organized nationally including 4 Reserve Units!!! There are also a variety of auxiliary organizations providing support including: Prisoner Of War Relief; disaster relief; Women’s Auxiliary Air Service; Boy Scouts Of America; Girl Guides Of America

It is located on the northeastern coast of the state and straddles both the eastern and western boundaries of Indian River County. The area now called Fort Pierce was first settled by Volusia Indians in 1795 as part of a treaty with Spain. The fort was built by Major John Tryon in 1804 to support Spanish forces during their occupation of Florida. In 1861, following Confederate victory over Union forces at Battle of Mobile Bay, Fort Pierce became an important Confederate base. In 1898, Fort Pierce emerged as one of several towns along Indian River County's east coast boom town development when ocean liner Titanic sank off its shores on her maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg while en route from Liverpool to New York City via Jacksonville Beach; over 1 million passengers were lost including most of those who would have been living in Fort Pierce had they not evacuated prior to the sinking.
