The Gainesville Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to 1881. The unit was initially constituted as the Florida Volunteer Infantry on November 12, 1881. It was ordered into federal service on February 26, 1902 and activated at Fort Brooke in Austin, Texas. On October 10, 1903 the regiment was redesignated the 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment Florida Volunteer Infantry and placed under command of Major General John J. Pershing’s American Expeditionary Force (AEF). The battalion crossed the Mexican-American War boundary on October 25 and fought at Buena Vista Heights during President Ulysses S. Grant’s battle for control of Mexico City. In 1905 the battalion became part of First Brigade California Division United States Army Forces Southwest Pacific Area and served in New Guinea until December 2, 1907 when it redeployed to Australia for rest and recreation after months of combat operations in campaigns throughout New Guinea and Sulawesi. In January 1908 the battalion arrived in Brisbane where it reorganized as Company A1 4th Battalion Florida Volunteer Infantry Militia Regulars which participated in an exercises with Australian units at Recruit Depot North Queensland before embarking for Melbourne on April 9 aboard USS Ponce (CL 50) bound for Singapore where it disembarked on May 5 to take part in peacekeeping operations against Japan around Singapore Island from May 15-June 30, 1908 during World War I following hostilities between Germany and Austria-Hungary that began two days earlier. On November 15, 1918 1st Battalion Florida Volunteers Infantry Militia Regulars were mustered out of federal service at Fort Brooke effective date of November 20 following conflict with Czechoslovakia over Schleswig-Holstein question that led to armistice securing defeat by Germany; also discharged from military service were all men from Company A2 who had enlisted prior to October 1st war designation change effective date of September 16th due to loss or demobilization within state militia forces since expiration of enlistment period In 1919 company formed Reserve Artillery Battery C3A5M4 at Camp Blanding Nature Preserve thenceforward known as Gainesville Armory Field Artillery battery because field artillery batteries no longer included infantrymen

The Gainesville, Florida Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The unit was first organized in 1798 and served in the Seminole War and during the Mexican-American War. In 1881, the unit was amalgamated with the Jacksonville Regiment and became known as The Jacksonville Infantry. During World War I, The Jacksonville Infantry fought in Ireland and France. After World War I, The Jacksonville Infantry served in the Philippine-American War and Gulf of Mexico Expedition. In 1951, the Florida National Guard's 143rd Brigade was created and it has been serving continuously since then.
Gainesville, Florida is a city located in the US state of Florida. The population was 39,549 at the 2010 census. Gainesville is the largest city in Volusia County and the second-largest city in Brevard County. The two metropolitan areas of Gainesville and Orlando each have over 1 million residents. The history of Gainesville can be traced back to 1845 when Jesse J. Gaines arrived from Georgia with his family and began teaching school in what is now known as downtown Gainesville. In 1870, George Washington Carver moved to Gainesville from Jacksonville, Alabama and opened a grocery store on East Orange Street which became one of the first grocery stores in Florida. In 1905, Abraham Lincoln Wayland purchased property east of town and built a mansion called Wayland Place which served as the home of Governor John Witherspoon until 1913 when he moved to Tallahassee. From 1912-1915, Drury Lane School was founded by educator Jno Eminent Hakeem who donated land for an elementary school that would eventually become charters high schools across Central Florida such as Lake Forest College (1917), University High School (1920), Stetson University (1924), Rollins College (1945) and USF Polytechnic Institute (1978). In 1954, Floridians voted to annex Miami Beach into Volusia County; however, Miami Beach rejected annexation so it remained a separate municipality within Miami Dade County until 1959 when it merged with Miami Beach into one municipality and became known asMiami–Dade County. On July 20th 1978, Gainsville lost its charter status as an incorporated municipality after citizens voted 3-2 to accept annexation by Coral Springs into Broward county effective August 1st 1978 under then Broward county Mayor Carlos Romero Jr.. The original name for Gainsville was "Baldwin City". Gainesville, Florida is a city in the U.S. state of Florida and the county seat of Alachua County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 382,872. Gainesville is one of two cities located in Alachua County; the other is Lakeland. The Gainesville metropolitan area had a population of 622,entially making it part of Greater Orlando, which has a total population of 1,646,971 according to 2010 estimates. The city's economy focuses on education and research and development as well as tourism and retail trade; some important areas include Johns Hopkins University Hospital and NASA's Kennedy Space Center are also in or near Gainesville. In 2000, Forbes magazine ranked Gainesville as having the "best university town" in America The first human settlement in what is now Gainesville was by Captained John Smith on March 12th 1736 at Fort Exeter when he and his men landed with supplies for an expedition against Spanish forces at Espiritu Santo Islands (). This location would later become known as Smithtown due to its namesake. On November 9th 1819 Captain Fenton Burroughs founded what would become Burroughsville after purchasing 5 acres (20 ha) from David Neely for $200 ($4 per acre). After several years Burroughs sold out his land holdings to Jacksonville businessman Eliab Peeples who renamed it Gainesville on December 15th 1826 (). It became an incorporated village on January 1st 1827 (). In 1915 Gainsville was annexed by Jacksonville (); however following annexation there were no changes made to its municipal government until 1962 when Mayor Parke Young became Mayor effective January 1st that year (). The first school in what is now Gainesville was built by James Dunmore (1765-1829) on October 30th 1792 under the name 'Fulton Academy'. When Dunmore died his heirs named their new academy 'Gaineseville Academy' but this too failed to gain favor with local parents so they changed it back to Dunmore Academy on May 2nd 1800 (). One major reason behind this may have been because there were already many academies established throughout Southwest Florida at that time including one called Fort Walton Beach Academy where students could attend free while practicing law ()(). Finally after many applications and debates between various businessmen amateur trustees selected Colonel Thomas Alexander Clarke (1802-1884) as their first president/CEO days before he took office()". He set about building a large brick building measuring 137 feet (43 m) wide x sixty feet (24 m) high with six stories ()'. He also started construction on what would be called 'the Capitol', which still stands today (), along with much else during his presidency such as enlarging Gainsville Jail from 3 cells to 10 cells (), creating a water tower ()and expanding Wellborn Cemetery ()); all while struggling financially(). After Clarke's death in184(), Lieutenant Colonel George Hogg takeover but lost interest within months because he found little use for agricultural land around Gainsville ().
