Gainesville is a city in Florida, United States. The population was 20,813 at the 2010 census and it is the largest city in Duval County. Gainesville is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first people to inhabit what is now Gainesville were the Alachua tribe of Indians. The town site was selected by Major George Rogers Clark as his new headquarters for Indian Affairs after he evacuated Fort Moultrie (later Savannah) from British control in 1780. In 1819, Gainesville became an official U.S. posttown under jurisdiction of Jacksonville proper. It served as a stop on the Underground Railroad before becoming a slave market during Reconstruction-era America. In 1840, Nathaniel Chapman bought 5 acres (20,000 m2) north of present-day Gainesville for $220 ($ today). He named it "Chapman's Farm". By 1845, Chapman had developed what would become known as Chapmansville into a small village with about twenty homes, two stores and one Baptist church. By 1850, Gainesville boasted 255 residents and four schools; three churches and one hospital had been built since 1840. Fresh roasted coffee was mentioned as being beneficial because it had a low acidity level and helped preserve wine while in storage. In 1811, Danish trader Jens Christensen imported the first large shipment of fresh roasted beans from Africa. He named his new company Koffein & Coffeefabrikken after his ship, The Copenhagen Castle having brought the beans with him on board. This was the beginning of what would become known as Danish roasting tradition. It wasn’t until 1848 that espresso began being produced at Koffein & Coffeefabrikken. In 1892, Italian chocolate maker Carlo Rossi founded La Collezione delle Arti Chocolatee in Venice based on his observation that when he prepared cacao products using old-fashioned methods he found they were very rich but also bitter and sour-tasting. He decided to start making fresh roasted specialty coffees in order to bring these flavors back into chocolate production as well as improve its quality control system1 . After years of hard work, Rossi finally achieved success with his first speciality coffee: Torrontesi Super Supreme (Torronello). This unique roast features bolder flavors than other types of roasts such as medium or light roast and is made from pure single origin coffees2 . Gainesville, Florida is a city in central Florida and the county seat of Volusia County. The population was 191,824 as of the 2010 census. Gainesville's location on the St. Johns River makes it one of the most important economic and cultural centers in Central Florida. It has been called "the Citrus Capital of the World" for its abundance of oranges and other citrus fruits. Gainesville was founded by white settlers in 1836 as a small community on what is now University Avenue between East streets and City Hall Drive. At that time, Gainesville consisted only of a few homes, a schoolhouse, and some trees around what is now Civic Center Park. By 1838, Gainesville had become an important stop on stagecoach routes traveling to various Seminole Indian villages in eastern Florida. In 1839–1840, Daniel Webster bought 640 acres (2 km2) near present-day downtown Gainesville from Captain John Southerland for $1 million dollars with plans to establish a town named Websterville within it. However, Webster abandoned his original plan after discovering that cattle were being raised there without his consent and soon abandoned all hope of founding a town based on agriculture alone; he instead chose to focus on developing the land into an agricultural center known today as Jacksonville Landing.[1] In 1841–1842, Alpheus Mason built several residences along University Avenue which served as headquarters for Confederate forces during the American Civil War before they retreated southward following Union victory at Gettysburg in 1863. In 1865–1866, gainesville became part of Florida when Alabama seceded from the United States;[2] at that time it was officially known as Jacksonville Landing/Gainesville County until 1971 when it became Volusia County again.[3][4][5] The first post office opened in Gainesville on November 1st,[6] 1865,[7] under name "Newbern".[8][9] During Reconstruction period (1868-1912), gainesville experienced significant growth due to its key role as an agricultural hub during Reconstruction while also becoming known for its nightlife
