Greenacres is a small community located in the panhandle of Florida, about 25 miles northwest of Gainesville. It was founded by white settlers in 1892, and has since grown to include more than 1,000 residents. The community is home to a public library, two churches (one Baptist, one Methodist), four schools (two elementary and two high school), and a few businesses. In addition to its economic importance, Greenacres also contributes significantly to the local culture. The town's nickname "The Garden City" is due in part to the many greenery that characterizes its landscape. The first Europeans to visit Greenacres were missionaries who established a mission there in 1892. By 1905, however, most of the original settler population had departed for other parts of Florida or North Carolina. For many years thereafter, Greenacres served as an agricultural outpost on the southern edge of what is now Jacksonville County. However, during World War II it became an important military training ground for the Army Air Forces due to its strategic location at Yuma Key on Live Oak Keys Island off the coast of Jacksonville County. Afterward, Greenacres regained some of its former agricultural prominence; today it is home to several small farms as well as several large businesses. Today's focus on tourism has helped revive some aspects of local economy while creating new opportunities for growth; over $1 billion have been invested in green infrastructure projects statewide since 2010 alone! As one result of this growing popularity and progressivism among locals – exemplified by Mayor Prendergast's 2013 push for increased funding for green initiatives – recent polls show that support for preserving greenacre communities nationally stands at an all-time high!

Greenacres is a small town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for Green Acres dairy farm on which it was located. In 1915, entrepreneur Denton Hargrave donated 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land to the town for use as a rural public school district and public library. The name changed to Greenacres in 1922 when the first post office opened there. In 1904, two brothers from New York City founded Jardine Farms here with $10 000 investment. They were interested in citrus fruit production and built a large free-standing orchard that still stands today. After they died their brother's children continued to run the business until 1946 when it passed into private hands and ceased production. Next door to Jardine Farms stood another citrus grove called Citrus Heights that was home to one of Duval County's first grocery stores, Gourley's Grocery & Liquor store operated by Harry Gourley from 1916 until 1978. In 1944, American Telephone and Telegraph bought Gourley's assets; this led to CT&T making an agreement with local farmers giving them access to new telephone lines without having to sell their product back to Teletype subscribers This arrangement continued through most of the 1980s when CT&T merged with Time Warner who then transferred ownership of Citrus Heights Grocery Store property back into the hands of its original owners before closing it down in 1988 . The site where Gourley's store now stands has been used as a playground since 1987 .
