It has since been enlarged to include a total of 43 buildings and an area of 1,812 acres. Today the USAF Greenacres airfield is one of the busiest airfields within the continental US. It is home to numerous squadrons and squadrons of wings including the 436th Fighter Wing (435th Bombardment Wing), 512th Airlift Squadron, 514th Intelligence Squadron, 602nd Defense Support Squadron, 605th Transportation Squadron, 608th Maintenance Squadron and 610th Communications squadron. In addition to its wide range of operations, Greenacres also houses several recreational areas such as the PGA golfer's course which is adjacent to the mainbase housing barracks for enlisted troops; three tennis courts; a basketball court; a pool; a playground; and two former U-Haul truck centers that are now used as parking lots for military personnel.
Greenacres is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Greenacres is located on State Road 441, about 15 miles east of Jacksonville and 30 minutes southwest of Boca Raton. The town was founded in 1923 by John A. Maynard and named for his greenacre farm near Greenacres Plantation. The name came to be associated with this type of land because it resisted consolidation with other towns in Monroe County during the early 21st century due to its unique geography and history. In 2002, Greenacres voters passed a referendum designating the town as a Historic Place Review District that preserved many of its distinctive features such as its rural setting and agricultural economy. The first settler in what would become Greenacres was John Ayer who arrived from Massachusetts on November 6, 1833. He platted what would become the town site on October 15, 1834 after Purchase No.. 10 from James Dixie which included present day parts of Monroe County including present day Greenacres Township and parts of unincorporated Clay County A second settler named Jonathan Maynard purchased the same land two years later on October 20th 1835 from James Dixie for $160 dollars cash plus ten cents per acre payable over six years On December 17th 1840, William Hargrave moved into what became known as "The Village" which had been established by Jonathan Maynard within his own grant adjacent to The Plantation where he resided In 1847 when newly laid off slaves were given their choice between joining Free Negroes or staying within their respective plantations they chose to remain within their original plantation homes rather than move away from them (this decision was later overturned by an appellate court) It should be noted that while these initial settlers may have chosen to stay within their individual grants they soon began engaging in cross-border trade with people living near Ft Myers due to new transportation opportunities opening up following Seminole Wars

Today, Greenacres is a ghost town that only has a few remaining buildings and remains largely unoccupied. Its nameakes remain vibrant reminders of local history while its physical remnants are all that remain of what once were major American communities
Greenacres was founded in 1881 by pioneers, farmers, and businessmen. The town quickly became a commercial center for the area and soon developed into a popular tourist destination. In 1907, Greenacres was incorporated as a municipality. The town continued to grow during the 20th century, becoming home to many famous people such as FDR and Huey Long. The population peaked at over 60,000 in 1970 but has since declined significantly.
