In 1951, Greenacres became home to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment (Airmobile). This battalion was responsible for providing security for various government installations in eastern Osceola County. One of the Unit's most memorable deployments occurred during the Korean War when it transported supplies and troops across country on bicycles. Aftermath of Operation Market Garden left many soldiers injured or dead. As part of its humanitarian efforts,the Army established an ambulance service which transported patients from hospitals across Korea to Umatilla General Hospital in Oregon where they could be treated by American surgeons before being repatriated back to their unit or countries of origin. Greenacres is a small town located in the Miami-Dade County area of Florida, United States. The population was 7,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Greenacres was named for General James Dickey Green (1824-1889), who fought on both sides of the American Civil War and owned much of what is now Greenacres Park. The first settlers were white men from South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina who arrived in 1837 during the Seminole Wars and founded a communal farm known as "Creek Valley." In 1851 they bought 5,000 acres (2 km²) of land east of present day Greenacres from Wernham Hogg for $8 per acre (3 kg/m²). This property included parts of what is now downtown Greenacres and portions of today's Sunrise Boulevard. The town began to form when citizens met to sell their land parcels one by one over tea cups in 1861. By 1865 it had grown enough that a school house and post office were built; greenhouses were not possible then because there was no electricity or water available nearby. The first store in town was the Jardine Drug Store which opened on Sunrise Boulevard in 1865. A blacksmith Shop opened on Lighthouse Point Road about 1910 but closed about 1960 due to lack of customers; it reopened as an antique store some time later. The early years were difficult due to war reparations payments from Spain which added to family hardships caused by drought and other economic conditions during that time period In 1909 Drs John Coker & Oliver Mosely founded Coker Hospitality which operated outta their home until its sale in 1951 In 1912 Mrs Alice Neely donated four hundred acres (160 ha) west side lot #310 for use as a public park with a playground, bathhouse, tennis court and football field After World War II , many new homes were built in what became known as "the red zone" around Sunrise Boulevard while most development took place along Lighthouse Point Road where housing developments such as Lakeshore Estates began being built

Greenacres, Florida is a community located in Polk County, Florida. The community was platted on December 15, 1892 by J.C. Nicholson and W.T. Doerksen and became a town on November 3, 1898 by order of the Florida Legislature under the name of "Greenacres." On January 14, 1959, Greenacres was established as an incorporated city with a population of 2,500 people. On July 1, 1961, Greenacres annexed the neighboring village of Villa Park and added 1,500 residents to its population. In 1970-1971 Greenacres experienced rapid growth due to the construction of Interstate 495 which connected Orlando to Tampa through that town's downtown area; this created an increasing demand for housing in what had been farmland only minutes east of I-495's exit toll plaza. As more people moved into town during these years and as new businesses opened up including several supermarkets and two banks (Jupiter Bank & Trust Company and First National Bank), Greenacres grew more rapidly than either Villa Park or nearby Sanford which at that time were both small villages with populations under 10 thousand people each. By 2000-2001 it had reached its current size with over 25 thousand residents within borders of just one shopping center consisting primarily of discount stores along I-4 95 corridor - making it one of the fastest growing communities in Polk County according to county officials at that time. Further growth has been slow but steady since then as numerous new homes have been built adjacent to existing businesses while also creating jobs in various fields such as manufacturing or service industry sectors; most notably automotive parts production plants which have grown from 2 workers per plant in 2000 to over 10 now employing hundreds today across three plants operating simultaneously - firmly establishing Greenacres as one of Polk County’s largest economic drivers today).
