They roasted their own beans and served them fresh at their shop, which is still open today. In 1854, John Smeaton opened his first grocery store in Greenacres and started selling coffee. The village also hosted the 1994 US Open Tennis Championships which took place between September 14-18 at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Weston Park.

During World War II, American soldiers stationed overseas drank local coffee instead of beer because there was no available beer on site at home (except for single-malt Scotch). After 1945, when caffeine content was added back into regular draft airline beers, more Americans began enjoying espresso drinks like Italy's La Marzocco and Swiss Bebel with their morning oats . Greenacres was a small town in Broward County, Florida, until the late 1990s. It is now part of Davie. The population was 7,451 at the 2000 census. The first known settlement in what is now Greenacres was made on April 15, 1868 by J.P Wadsworth and his brother-in-law W.H. Dodge on a section of land that later became part of Fort Lauderdale. The Wadsworth brothers named the community after their home county in England - "Greenacre" according to one source. In 1896, Ayer Company began shipping raw cotton from plantations near Jacksonville to local buyers in Broward County for processing into finished items such as textiles and clothing. This allowed Greenacres to become an important agricultural center with its own mills and warehouses before becoming an industrial center with its own steel plant, light manufacturing plants and a plastics factory starting up around World War II. In 1954, Henson Paper Products opened up shop here making tabloid paper products under the name Herald Press Newspapers until it closed down in 1984 following the company's merger with Allied Publishing Corporation which operated many similar businesses throughout South Florida including The Miami Herald newspaper chain; Herald products were eventually moved to Indiana where they remain today as Best Buy newspapers After years of decline due largely to hurricanes Andrew and Katrina (which destroyed much of Gulf Coast society), business growth resumed when Hurricane Irma struck early September 2017; this led to new job opportunities across many sectors: manufacturing (steel production specifically), restaurant/ catering/ travel services, real estate development etc., finally putting Greenacres back onto the map as an attractive place for people to live and work outside of hurricane zones
Greenacres was founded in 1892 by F.A. Green and his family. The Village of Greenacres was platted in 1893 and incorporated as a town in 1904. In 1925, the name of the town was changed to Lake Worth after its annexation into Miami-Dade County. In 1971, the village of Greenacres merged with the city of Lake Worth to form a single municipality with a population of over 100,000 people.
