The Marine Corps Deployed Gift History Program began in 1984 as part of the Marine Corps Small Unit Commemorative program. TheMC DPWH is currently responsible for all gifts given to Marines stationed in deployed locations around the world. Since its inception, the MCDPH has received significant accolades from Marines and their families. In 1992, the program was honored with a commendation from then-Marine General Carl Vinson during his visit to Greenacres, Florida. Today, the MCDPH continues to be recognized for its excellence by giving back to its troops through donations and special events. In addition to hosting annual holiday parties and entertaining units at Fort Myers Beach, Florida; Camp Pendleton, California; Quantico, Virginia; and Guantanamo Bay Naval Base Cuba, the organization also participates in numerous charitable causes worldwide. Greenacres, Florida is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The community was first settled in 1920 by German immigrants and their families who had come to the country as refugees during World War I. The name "Greenacres" is derived from the Spanish word "greens" meaning "green." After purchasing land in 1922, they built a small church and began growing crops. The town became known for its oranges, tomatoes, and potatoes which were grown on family property until 1954 when it became part of what is now Kendall-Miami Gardens MSA. During the 1960s and 1970s, Greenacres experienced a growth spurt with development of new shopping malls and restaurants along with an increase in professional services such as law enforcement, accounting, health care, engineering and business administration. In recent years there has been a decrease in both residential and commercial development because of competition from other municipalities within Miami-Dade County as well as elsewhere throughout South Florida for acreage for housing developments. The community has annexed portions of neighbouring communities including Pompano Beach to form a more consolidated municipality known locally as Parkland subdivision (renamed Coral Gables after annexation). A large number of residents continue to live in Greenacres even though annexation provides them with more services than they would have if they lived inside their original municipality boundaries

In 1835, the first Marines were raised in San Diego and began their service in California. soon after, Marines were sent to Texas and Mexico to fight in the Mexican-American War.
