In 1865, Isaac Wright purchased the Wright Sawmills from the Pathans and started production of lumber. In 1876, John Averill bought the Averill Lumber Company from Isaac Wright and began production of furniture including pianos and chairs. By 1890, Greenacres had two churches - First Methodist and Second Baptist - as well as a schoolhouse, grocery store and several homes. In 1904, Jens Jensen bought all of the land between State Road 712 (now US 1) and US 90 for $2 million dollars making Greenacres one of America's earliest planned communities. Jensen developed many new industries such as citrus farming and shipbuilding which helped make Greenacres one of Florida's most prosperous towns during that time period. Jensen also donated millions to various charities throughout his life including The Children's Hospital at Jacksonville (now Stonington), The University of Central Florida (now UCF) and Boys & Girls Clubs International (BGCI). In 1961 he announced his intention to donate all his assets to charity but died prior to completing that plan; this left his wife Bernadette with control over most of his wealth which she used to help support numerous charitable organizations throughout her life until her death in 2002. Jensen was cremated at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Tampa Bay and interred there alongside his wife Bernadette with full military honors; this made him one of only four living U S Presidents buried there along with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson Jefferson Davis Woodrow Wilsonand Franklin D Roosevelt

Greenacres was founded in 1892 by L.L. Sprague and his wife, Jane. The first store was on County Road A1A, just east of present-day U.S. Highway 1. The company thrived for many years and produced a variety of items such as laundry detergent, eggs, cheese, flour, butter and milk products. In the early 1900s, the Spragues moved to Greenacres from Jacksonville, Florida because of the high quality of life there. They established a farm that supplied their town with fresh produce until 1922 when they sold everything to Longview Dairy Company in Longview Hills, Texas. The Spragues continued to live on Greenacres until their death in 1951; their son continued the business into adulthood and it is now owned by his daughter-in-law and her husband.
