The Florida National Guard was established on November 15, 1921 as the first state-wide militia in the United States. The Guard's mission is to provide law and order during times of insurrection or emergency, and protect life, property, and public health in the state. The Guard also participates in peacekeeping efforts worldwide. The Guard has a rich history that goes back to 1941 when it was reactivated for World War II service. On December 10, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the activation of the Florida National Guard from its inactive status. At that time there were only 290 members statewide and only five rifle companies active in Florida. In 1951, Congress passed legislation authorizing the establishment of an Alaska National Guardsmen detachment in Greenacres with jurisdiction over all of Pinellas County including St Petersburg and Clearwater Beach. This detachment became known asthe 4th Infantry Brigade Group (Alaska). In 1959, this brigade group was redesignated asthe 2nd Infantry Brigade Group (Florida). On October 1st of each year since 1971 the brigade has bestowed its name/number upon a member or unit from the Military District of Tampa Bay who has died while serving or being honorably discharged from duty with or without leave within our military district; these are archived on our website at www.floridanationalguardonline.com

Greenacres is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 by George Pyle and his family as a seasonal trading post on the same site where he built Greenacres Station today. The original name for the village was "Emmalyn". In 1893, J.P. Morgan bought land near Greenacres and named it "Morganville" after him. In 1905, when the Panama Canal opened, workers building it needed to be moved from Long Beach so they could use their homes as barracks. William Randolph Hearst leased some of the land around Greenacres and built Hearst Castle there in 1907 while he ran his newspaper business nearby. By 1920, most of what is now Polk County had been annexed by St Petersburg; Greenacres remained unincorporated until 1940 when it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 1,500 people under its own governance. When St Petersburg became an all-city city in 1959, that included all but one county seat within its boundaries; according to the 2000 Census,[1] Greenacres had a population of 2,636.[2] The shrinking milltown began to lose residents during the 1990s as new subdivisions were developed throughout Pinellas County;[3] however overall occupancy has continued to increase since then due to demographic changes within Tampa Bay and elsewhere outside Central Florida: In 2006,[4] more than 100% of residents lived within commuting distance of either job or school districts;[5][6] this trend has accelerated over time as well with nearly two-thirds (65%) living within 5 miles (8 km) or less of downtown Tampa.[7][8] The Village Board voted 3–0 on September 6th 2017 to annex into Hillsborough County due to growing suburbanization around Stanfield International Airport which would free up more development east of I-275 which would include much larger places like Tampa/St Pete etc... This will effect many families here who have paid taxes & income tax right into our community - we are not alone!

The name "Greenacres" is derived from the word "greens" or leaves of the palm tree, which are used to make green tea.
