Greenacres is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Greenacres was first settled by European immigrants in the early 1800s. In 1857, James K. Polk bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of what is now Greenacres from John Snee and named it after his ancestor General James Knox Polk who had died in 1846. Greenacres became a post office on January 15, 1870, under the name of Newberryville; it changed its name to Greenacres on November 3, 1872. In 1907, a grocery store and two-story school were built along SR 706 near present day US 1/US 34 south of town; this store remains open today as Pineapple Rd Grocery & Catering Inc., with over 80 employees serving customers from Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm. In 1950, when Interstate 4 made its debut in central Florida and southern Polk County began to be developed for highway traffic only ( concurrent I-4 designation did not exist at that time), major changes took place in Greenacres as well: all state routes were eliminated except SR 706 which became I-4's primary route east-west through town while US 1/US 34 remained rural until they were rerouted aroundtown at various points starting about 1960; there followed years of development with new homes being built right up against I-4 making travel into town nearly impossible without taking an exit off 4 or traveling some distance downriver whereupon one would then have to return using one or more subsequent exits off I-4). Since then much has been added onto what was once just a small village: a high school opened in 2002 and replaced an earlier elementary school which closed in 1998; greenhouses have been erected on several properties within walking distance of downtown for residential use; numerous businesses have opened up including three gas stations (Quarter Horse convenience store - still open next to old post office - Rte 12); two restaurants opened up around 2005--one called Homegrown BBQ & Ribs and another called Pinch Me"; new shopping centers are now being constructed nearby including One Stop Shopping Center which contains large anchor stores such as Sears and JCPenney; much work continues apace with plans for even more retail space and additional transportation options available should things go south again like they did during the 2008 economic recession—an event that caused many jobs throughout central Florida to leave town altogether The community has seen various types of events take place over the years ranging from funerals for local residents killed by automobile accidents while driving home from work on Tuesday morning all the way through concerts by popular local bands like The Allman Brothers Band at Gulfstream Park during summer months; most recently there has been an increase in interest due to developer Byron Glover's plans for multiple housing units consisting of apartments and duplexes will be located immediately adjacent to downtown just eastbound I-4 Exit 346A providing easy access both ways making it possible for commuters who wish not hassle with exiting onto 4 every time they want groceries or other necessities such as haircare products etc.; if all goes accordingtoplan thoseunits will be completed by late 2019 or early 2020

Greenacres was a small community in Escambia County, Florida, United States. It was located on the Gulf of Mexico about 31 miles (50 km) southeast of Pensacola and 11 miles (17 km) north-northwest of Fort Walton Beach. The population in 1910 was 527. The community developed as a result of the timber trade between North America and the Caribbean. The first white settler in Greenacres was Elijah Wooten, who arrived in 1836. He built his home on a bend in the bayou and named it "Wooten's Bend." Other early settlers included Isaac Asbury, John Chamberlain, James Cooks, Benjamin Franklin Gist, David Hilliard, Ebenezer Holmes and Solomon Jarvis. In 1881, Greenacres became part of Escambia County when it was created from parts of Santa Rosa County and Calhoun County. By 1907 its population had reached 1,182 people. During World War II many residents worked at various naval stations along the southeastern coast; most notably at Pensacola Naval Air Station (now Pensacola Regional Airport). Additionally many homes were used as military barracks during that time period
