The Gulfport Coast Guard Station has been in service since 1919. As one of the oldest Coast Guard stations in the area, its history goes back to when the first coast guard unit was organized in Pensacola, Florida on July 4th, 1919. The station was initially commanded by Captain W. H. Bledsoe and served as a local stop for search and rescue operations during the 1920s and 1930s. During World War II, the station played an important role in helping to protect shipping lanes in the Gulf of Mexico by providing patrol services and conducting air patrols. In 1948, Captain J. A. Fenton took over command of the station and continued to grow it into a fully functional coast guard force with multiple squadrons that operate today from ourstation located just north of downtown Gulfport on State Street. After years of growth and modernization, Captain Fenton’s successor, Commander Trites (Ret.) left office on December 1st, 2006 leaving behind a Coast Guard Station that continues to serve as an essential part of Gulfport’s community until today!

Gulfport is a city in Jackson County, Florida, United States. The population was 13,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of theJacksonville–Canton–Orlando Combined Statistical Area. Gulfport is the county seat of Jackson County and the second most populous city in Jacksonville County after Jacksonville. The area now known as Gulfport was first inhabited by Achenegherean people who hunted and traded with Native Americans. In 1795, Spanish explorers discovered Pensacola Bay and decided to establish a Presidio there because they believed its location would provide them with natural defense against American incursions into their territory. The site that became Gulfport was chosen for its strategic location on Pensacola Bay between two mountains and its easy access to water supplies from both the bay and inland rivers. Gulfport's history began with Landing Place which was an earth-fill bluff located between present-day US 192nd Street and Pensacola Bayou. This bluff served as a landing place for early settlers who built homes on the bluff during the 1800s following the opening of navigation channels through Pensacola Bay. In 1815, Captain James Cook sailed past Cape Canaveral while exploring America's east coast and noticed an impenetrable barrier reef in front of him; he named this reef "Cape Lookout." On July 25, 1822, United States Navy Commodore John Denny designated Landing Place as Fort George Wright (later renamed Fort Myers) due to its importance as a military post on Muskegon River near Detroit, Michigan during that time period when Ulysses S Grant commanded American forces in that theater of war. In 1824, Thomas Moultrie leased land from Andrew Turnbull at Landing Place for $2 per acre (the amount then equivalent to about $ today). Moultrie developed this land into what are now called Downtown Gulfport or Port Mayaca Streetscape District including portions of present-day downtown Jacksonville Beach where he built his home; it is also includes parts of Mobile Beach today. The first permanent settler in what would become Gulfport was Nicholas Neely who arrived in 1819 from Ireland via New Orleans aboard HMS Beagle under British captain Robert Falconer.. Neely homesteaded on what are now called East End streetscape district adjacent to present day Municipal Pier No 1 just south of US192nd Street/Downtown GulfPort Boulevard connecting Dock 5th Avenue northward to I-95W approximately 2 miles southwest of downtown Jacksonville . Neely had difficulties getting permission from authorities to build his house on private property so he took matters into his own hands building it outbuildings using mud bricks and mortar until eventually receiving approval from local officials in 1830 when he moved permanently into what is now Downtown Gulfport . From 1830 thru 1840 much development took place utilizing convict labor recruited locally primarily among white male entrepreneurs such as Drury McDougall , Elijah Parish Jr., Jno Crain & company along with others associated with Merchant Marine profession such as John Pritchard . By 1850 nearly all privately owned land within modern day downtown boundaries had been developed including many First National Bank buildings still extant today .. Only one block south off I-95W prior to being connected by expressway - then known simply as Harbor Boulevard - did not see significant growth taking place across expressway right shoulder until very recent past when new development began surrounding Expressway interchange .. What once were alleyways leading downriver towards Railroad Station have become most important commercial corridors running perpendicular northeasterly just north off I-95W connecting Downtown Gpt port directly witout intervening neighborhoods .. These Commercial Corridor areas contain large concentrations major chain stores including Walmart Supercenter store articulating along Harbor Boulevard corridor .. major light industrial park containing Ford plants assembly line severing direct connection between Warehouse Districts northeast & southeast across Harbor Blvd ... Today remnants remaining around original Landing Place Bluffs facing Pensacola Bay can be seen behind high walls at NW corner edge of Mobile Beach
The Coast Guard was established in 1915 as the United States Coast Guard. The current coast guard is made up of over 30,000 soldiers, marines, and airmen. The Coast Guard has a diverse history that goes back to its creation as the United States Life-Saving Service. In 1915, Congress passed an act that created the United States Life-Saving Service and ordered all U.S ports be closed to navigation until a lifeboat could be dispatched from any port in the country. This law was known as the Jones Act and it helped create a need for a dedicated coast guard force to protect America's coastline. In 1922, Congress passed another act that mandated that all vessels on American coasts must have lights at nightfall so they could be seen by shipping lanes and other nations watching. The first Coast Guard cutter was built under this new law and she became known as USCGC Miami (CGC Minto). By 1923, there were over 100 Coast Guardsman providing coastal protection across the country. These men worked together to prevent accidents and save lives on America's shores. Over time, more ships were added to the Coast Guard fleet and it became one of the most heavily armed maritime agencies in the world. In 1941, during World War II, President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9105 which created both the Marine Corps Commando Unit (MCCU) and Coastal Patrol Squadron Five Hundred (VP5), both of which would serve within Naval Forces Europe (NFE). These units would provide liaison between Naval forces ashore and Naval Aviation personnel flying missions over Nazi Germany or Italian targets from Allied airspace. With advances in technology during World War II, including radar technology being developed by military officials at federal laboratories such as Bell Labs, it was no longer possible for enemy submarines or planes to stay hidden while attacking America's shores undetected; therefore these attacks became increasingly common instead requiring warships equipped with sonar systems travel close aboard target vessels conducting surveillance operations against submarines or aircraft when necessary instead of relying solely on visual means employed throughout much of WWII Examples include USS Ponce conducting an unarmed practice attack off California on 7 December 1942 afterShe had been outfitted with sonar equipment; USS Squalus engaging three German Bf 109s flown by ace pilot Hans von Richthofen while en route from HamburgOperation Girdle; USS Sasquatch striking positions along Norwegian coast during Operation Neptune Spear operation 25 November 1944As part of her nightly patrols near Hammerfest Harbor During WWII many merchant ships were sunk due primarilyto torpedoes fired from Japanese destroyers operating adjacentto their convoy path without warning damage control crews who attemptseto save their ship however many did sink due to torpedoes passing throughunsafe waters area often causing high loss rates for merchant vesselowners during WWII

Gulfport is a city located in the Miami-Dade County, Florida metropolitan area. It was founded by Gulfstream Airlines in 1927 as a small airfield on the southern edge of town. The airport grew rapidly after it opened and became one of the largest in Miami-Dade County. In 1948, Gulfport became an official port of entry for cars entering and exiting Florida from Mexico. The city also served as the terminus for Amtrak's Key West service. In 2002, Gulfport was renamed to honor Admiral John Kirby USN (Retd.), who had been its mayor from 1978 to 1982 and who is considered to be its most significant civic leader since its founding. Admiral Kirby played an important role in developing and maintaining economic stability during the early years of the 21st century's recession in south Florida by promoting new technology companies that thrived during this time period such as eBay, PayPal, Facebook, Google Earth, Twitter and LinkedIn. He also helped lead efforts to redevelop downtown with new shopping mall facilities, office towers and a new light rail system that serves today’s cityscape. His work has earned him numerous awards including being named one of South Floridas Most Influential Citizens by The Miami Herald in 2006 and 2008; he has also been honored with an award from the University of Central Florida’s School of Business Administration’s Alumni Association “Distinguished alumnus” program twice. Today, Gulfport remains an important center for commerce and education within south Florida while simultaneously experiencing rapid growth due to its location within easy reach of both major metropolitan areas in southFloridaand northMiamiúParrish Island
