The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Haines City, Florida began its operations on September 3, 1926. The Coast Guard Auxiliary was organized to provide support for the coastal communities along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of Florida. The first captain of the Coast Guard Auxiliary was Rear Admiral Alfred P. McCann. In 1933, Captain George C. Swartz became the first commandant of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Headquarters in Haines City. In 1970, Commodore Ray E. Witherspoon assumedcommand of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Haines City after serving as Superintendent of Training at Jacksonville Harbor. In 1992, Commodore William Lunsford assumed commandoftheHainesCityCoastGuardAuxiliary after retiring from service with the United States Navy submarine USS Scorpion (SS-532). Since its inception, the Coast Guard Auxiliary has played an important role in support of our state’s coastline and economy by providing a variety of services including search and rescue; law enforcement; maritime security; and environmental protection. Through our programs we are able to protect life and property on our beautiful state’s coastlines while promoting tourism and economic development within our community. Haines City is a small city in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 3,849 at the 2010 census. Haines City is located on the eastern edge of Palm Bay and is bordered by Indian Harbour to the north, Pompano Beach to the south, and Boca Raton to the east. The first inhabitants of this area were Seminoles who grazed their cattle on the then new land that now includes Haines City. The town was named for Captain James Haines who fought in what is now known as American Revolution against Great Britain. The citizens of Haines City built their first school in 1868 and incorporated as a municipality in 1907. In 1920, when Brevard County was created from part of Palm Bay, Haines City became its own county seat. In recent years, much development has taken place within the city limits including: -A new High School which opened in 2009 -An Art Gallery which opened in 2012 -A new Arena which opens September 1st 2018
The Coast Guard was established in 1903 as the United States Coast Guard. The first coast guard stations were set up along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States. In 1915, the Coast Guard became a national force with a single command center. As maritime activities intensified and new technologies emerged, the Coast Guard developed a number of new auxiliary units: an air cargo unit in 1917, search and rescue services in 1923, coastal defense forces in 1925, and warning services in 1929. The Coast Guards also began providing helicopter patrol service from 1928 to 2002. In 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the creation of a marine police force to supplement the coast guard’s enforcement capabilities. On November 15, 1941, Congress passed Public Law 692 which created United States Marine Police Service (USMPS). In 1945-1946 USMPS conducted Operation Neptune’s Spear which destroyed over 20 Japanese merchant ships off California’s coast while Ulysses S. Grant supervised from ashore at San Francisco Bay Area Command Post (Fremont County) Control Room located on Treasure Island during World War II during his time as Commanderin Chief of all American sea forces

Haines City is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,519 at the 2000 census. Haines City is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Haines" comes from Jean Baptiste Hainault and was given to the post office by General John W. Hull in 1868. In 1886, James C. Haines donated land to build a public school in what is now the downtown area of Haines City. A branch of First National Bank opened its doors in 1905 and served as one of the first banks in the area. The Stonington Hotel was built on State Road 812 about 1912 and became known for its large bed and breakfast rooms which were used by business people and politicians from both sides of the state line during prohibition times. A local grocery store called Price's Grocery opened in 1915 on Main Street near where Interstate 4 meets Uptown Drive today along with a few other businesses before it closed around 1990 due to financial problems that started several years earlier when then-Mayor Joe D’Angelo took over city government from his father, Mayor Ernesto D’Angelo Sr.. In 1959, Haines City residents voted to annex neighbouring Clearwater Beach because they felt that their community should have an equal voice with Clearwater Beach when it came to development decisions within their small town boundaries (as opposed to being positioned secondhand). On October 1, 1959, annexation was ratified by a vote of all residents living within reach of Clearwater Beach as well as by officials from Haines City who attended a special meeting held at Clearwater Beach Pier Amphitheater following passage of Resolution No.(1) dated October 15th 1959 setting forth guidelines for zoning changes for communities annexed into other municipalities within Polk County; these guidelines were based upon recommendations prepared by county commissioners Tom O’Donnell (D), Jack Dempsey (R), Harry Lawson (D) & Don Shafer (I), with no money originally set aside specifically for this purpose but which were subsequently funded through county courthouse budget allocations made subsequent year(s). Prior thereto there had been discussion amongst some citizens about whether or not annexation should consider either immediate purchase or building access roads into unincorporated areas adjoining our towns limits; however this issue did not materialize until after incorporation happened so we can only speculate as to why this never became a pressing concern since annexation does come with certain privileges & responsibilities accorded unto newly created municipalities including voting rights at elections which are regularly scheduled even though no money ever goes into those coffers! In recognition of its centennial Anniversary in 1998 – 2006 special commemoration markers honoring various historical figures associated with early life / settlement/growth /development/impact have been erected throughout town centre - notably: James C., Fannie Lou Simmons (1892-1976), Lester Herriott Sr./Jr., Joe D'Angelo Jr./III (1929-1999), Virgil Thomson III/IV (1911-1984) etc.; additional markers will soon be placed throughout town Proper celebrating 80th birthdays & additionally 60 years since WW2 began - incidentally also markingdates coinciding w/arrivalof new Volusia County Courthouse across US 301 northbound just south of HWY 40 exit #4 – ribbon cutting ceremonies will occur simultaneously (& below video)
