The Hallandale Beach Coast Guard Station has been providing first responder services to the community since 1912. The station is one of only a few in South Florida and is responsible for patrolling the beaches from Hallandale Beach Boulevard north to Boca Raton Boulevard. The station also provides fire protection, response to accidents, and helps connect people with resources in the community. In 1964, the Coast Guard Station became part of the newly created Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. In 1990, the Coast Guard Station was transferred from DHVM to GSO (Gulf Service Operation). In 2002, GSO merged with DHS (Department of Homeland Security) which made the Coast Guard Station an integral part of DHS' Law Enforcement Division. As part of this merger, all law enforcement functions were combined into one agency under one name-the Miami-Dade Police Department. Today, Coast Guardsmen provide First Responders Services through both MDPD's Tactical Response Battalion 1 and 2 as well as our Helicopter Patrol Squadron One (HPSOne) which provides helicopter service throughout Broward County on a rotating basis. Additionally we offer search and rescue capabilities through our Search and Rescue Squadron Two (SARS2), including participation in counter-drug operations when necessary. Hallandale Beach is a city located on the Atlantic Coast of Florida, United States. The population was 27,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of Palm Beach County and is bordered by Broward County to the north, Miami-Dade County to the east, Martin County to the south, and Boca Raton City to the west. The first permanent European settlers in Hallandale Beach were English traders who established a trading post in 1795. They built Fort Dania on White Sands Boulevard today's Tamarac Boulevard and named it for Prince Henry Frederick of Wales (1765–1824), eldest son of King George III. Captain John Smith (1686-1759) also visited Hallandale Beach in 1795 while exploring South Florida. In 1802 Colonel David Stuart purchased 8 acres (3 ha) of land at present-day Hallandale Boulevard and Old Post Road from Juan Pablo de Mena y Salcedo for $1000USD. Lord Byron spent some time in Hallandale Beach during his later years before moving back to England in 1827 after winning a legal battle against Sir Augustus Mitchell over land rights near Key West. In 1878 General James Longstreet surrendered Fort Donelson National Battlefield outside Jacksonville, FL to Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant as part of an effort by Confederate generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E Lee to break through Union lines into North Carolina. The battlefield now forms the eastern edge of downtown Jacksonville; about one quarter mile (.750 m) east of where it once stood stands Oneonta Avenue which leads directly from Interstate 95 southbound towards Middleburg Heights Mall across from Veterans Affairs Medical Center - both properties are now within Jacksonville Jaguars Stadium boundaries On December 2nd 1865 USS "Asiatic" hit an iceberg off shore near Hallsands beach killing 35 men including 11 officers and crewmen plus their families members Captain James Cook landed at what is now Hallsands beach on November 12th 1768 whilst exploring Tamil Nadu India His shipwreck still lies just offshore with its massive timbers visible even today due to receding tides HMS Terror had been lost en route two weeks earlier with all hands when Acting Commodore Edward Vernon found her stranded onshore with food supplies running low ashore he ordered Lieutenant John Gore RNVR who had commandeered HMS Dolphin moored astern her[yesterday] tow her out thence she sailed without loss or injury both ships arrived safe & sound next day having made 557 miles nonstop
Hallandale Beach is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 44,241 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The city has been settled since 1868 when Major John Hallandale and his family moved from Fort Lauderdale to purchase 640 acres (252 hectares) of land on Biscayne Bay. They named their new town after John Hallandale, an American Revolutionary War general who fought for the British forces against the American Revolution. The first post office in Hallandale Beach opened in 1870. The name "Hallandale" came about because Major John Hallandale's brother-in-law had given him a horse and wagonload of oranges as a gift and no one else wanted them because they were too expensive to transport by sea. In 1893, Drury Lane Nursing Home opened its doors and changed how hallandale beach served residents for many years thereafter serving as an important social service center for elderly people living along Biscayne Boulevard in south central Miami Beach until it closed its doors in 2007 due to financial troubles. In 1918, Hallandale Beach became known as "the most beautiful place on Earth" when Gertrude Stein wrote her book "Portrait of America". She visitedhallandebeach during her stay with Fannie Luce during World War I while working on her book "The Great Gatsby". In 1933, Rudolph Valentino filmed his movie "Citizen Kane" at Hollywood's RKO Studios on Biscayne Boulevard just north of what is now Veterans Memorial Park east of First Street North between Colonial Drive and Continental Avenue NE which included portions now used for Professional Athletic Club functions across First Street North from Colonial Drive NE
