Hallandale Beach, Florida is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,086 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The Hallandale Beach Naval Air Station (HBNAS) was chartered by Congress on November 5, 1942 as a naval air station for training pilots of the US Navy's Attack Squadron Five Hundred (AS5195). NAS HBNAS operated from an 8 acre (3 ha) site on Biscayne Bay until it was moved to its present location on October 1, 1949. AS5195 was disbanded on September 1, 1946 and its pilots were reassigned to various other NAS stations around the country. On July 20, 1948 NAS HBNAs became operational as an independent naval air station when Byrd Air Force Base closed its doors and all active USAAF units were transferred to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio. On December 10th 1945 USS "Cotton" hit a mine off Key West and sank with her entire crew of 44 men after night operations while attacking Japanese shipping based in that port; this single incident caused more than $1 million USD damage to key infrastructure within days following the attack and encouraged future American Mine Warfare Service deployments off of Key West NAS HBNAS continued operations under Section 2 jurisdiction up until May 1951 when Naval Reserve Group Two activated at NAS Jacksonville which assumed responsibility for all Naval Air Stations afloat including NAS HBNAS As NAVARAGUS increased in size with new construction projects such as "Everglades", "Marine Corps Base Fort Lauderdale" & "Southwest Asia" sections additional personnel were called up through separation commissions history reflects a force numbering over 714 Officers/Enlisted Men at one time manned both Sections Chief petty officers or EO's etcwere Major Hoskins Commanding Officer Withdrawn: -May 1951 due to lack of aircraft available for combat patrols during Korean War era Reactivated: -October 1st 1949 Inactivation: -October 15th 1958 Reactivated: -November 5th 1942 Inactivation: -November 15th 1958
Hallandale Beach is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood area. The land that would become Hallandale Beach was first settled by German immigrants in 1854. In 1865, Captain Otto Kieser founded the resort town of Hollywood on what is now State Road 7. By 1870, Hollywood had become a fully developed resort town with casinos and hotels as well as an A&P grocery store and post office. In 1907, Hollywood'sMayor John Cavanaugh acquired parcel #1 (now south of US 1) on which he built the first home in Hallandale Beach – a two-story Greek Revival style structure known today as "Captain Kieser House". In 1915, movie star Cecil B. DeMille purchased parcels from Captain Kieser for $10 per acre to develop his new movie colony called DeMille Manor. The name change followed DeMille's production company's purchase of additional property adjoining Hollywood between 1917 and 1919 while still under development by Captains Kieser and others. In 1922-1923 developer Harry Haggerty constructed what are now four tall white columns on Race Street commemorating Haggerty Avenue – one mile long and starting at Hummel Drive near Turnpike Plaza eastbound then continuing northwest to its terminus at Ocean Boulevard just south of I-95 exit 15A/SR 7/US 1). At this time Hollywood consisted of 28 residential buildings including seven theaters with seating for 2,500 people each; three large ballrooms; a library; 12 restaurants; twelve newsstands; fourteen stores; eleven garages; twelve service entrances; six guest rooms (one suite); one small garage used for storage only . Haggerty also commissioned two large limestone blocks designed by architect Edward Weideman to be seen from Lawndale Road extending into Flagler County . These were eventually placed outside the front entrance to both homes . On October 20th 1928 Harry Haggerty died suddenly after years of work on his project when his car drove off an access road leading up to his estate which was located about two miles west of where he planned it
