Hallandale Beach is a city in the state of Florida, located on the Gulf of Mexico. As of 2010, it had a population of 72,521. The city was founded in 1901 by developer George W. Hall and named for him and his wife Belle Halsey Hall. It became an incorporated municipality in 1928 and was renamed to its current name in 1957. The city is located on the unincorporated beach community of Hallandale Beach-Boca Raton Peninsula section of Boca Raton, Florida. The first settlers were Dutch immigrants who built their homes near what is now Balboa Park in 1824. In 1868, two brothers from Holland, Hendrick and Cornelis Van Pelt bought land at the mouth of Key Biscayne Creek (now part of Miami) for $1,000 cash only because they did not want to be forced out by American settlers who had landed there earlier that year. They started farming the land and soon began exporting goods to Cuba as well as selling products locally to local residents such as Major Edwin Forbes (founder father-in-law of Donald Trump). In 1901, developer George W. Hall purchased . He named it Belle Halsey Hall after his wife Belle Halsey Willingham (1872–1949), daughter of Rear Admiral Elijah Dyson Willingham (1848–1925), one time Commandant General US Naval Forces afloat during World War I and United States Ambassador to Japan from 1921 to 1923; he also served as Mayor of Coral Gables from 1924 until 1928 when he succeeded his mentor William Coviello as City Commissioner/Mayor pro tempore Belle Halsey Halls home still stands today on Balboa Boulevard just north Of State Road 704 which runs parallel to Balboa Boulevard between Government Center Drive & Flagler Street - close enough so you can see it if you walk across the street! After GH hall's death in 1925 his widow continued living here with her son until her death 1949 In 1929 Belle Halsey Halls husband Harry Lewis died suddenly due largely to a stroke while golfing at Harbour Island Club where he was playing with friends including future President Franklin D Roosevelt who attended that day FDR would go on later that year to win an election against Strom Thurmond but would lose this election too before becoming Americas 37th president In 1933 new zoning laws were passed which limited development along beaches throughout Broward County making it difficult for small businesses like Harry Lewis' own Shoprite Supermarket which sat on almost half a mile away from any Development allowed within 2 miles either side – right next door to where high school students play today
